Katrina Owens, married corrections officer, while attending barbecue with male friend, fatally shot after dispute breaks out in Newark, NJ.
Katrina Owens, a corrections officer, was shot and killed early Tuesday after a dispute erupted at a barbecue in Newark, NJ. According to the Star-Ledger, Owens, a resident of South Brunswick and a married mother of three, was attending a barbecue with a male friend. She was shot around 12:30 a.m.
The suspected gunman was found dead today of a gunshot wound in Virginia, according to law enforcement officials. The suspect, who is not Owens’ husband, was not identified by officials and it was not clear if his injuries were self inflicted or caused by law enforcement officers.
Owens was a veteran law enforcement officer, starting her career as a probation officer in 1998, said Department of Corrections spokesman Matthew Schuman. She took a brief break in service in 2006, returned to work in 2007 with the state Juvenile Justice Commission, then was hired as a corrections officer on July 17, 2010. Source: Star-Ledger
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the fallen law enforcement officer. Her husband has been identified as Marquis Owens, a fellow corrections officer. Her murder capped off a violent weekend in Newark, NJ. We will update this story as more information is released.
Allen Barron, wanted for the murder of Katrina Owens, commits suicide in Richmond, Va., this morning after brief run-in with the U.S. Marshal’s Service. He killed himself at a Greyhound Bus Depot.
Owens, a married mother of three who worked as a corrections officer at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, was apparently involved in a romantic relationship with Barron, according to Newark’s Acting Police Director Samuel DeMaio. Source: Star-Ledger
In other words, when you play, you pay. This woman’s children do not deserve the loss of their mother, who was committing adultery.
