Maria Balaban Files Lawsuit Demanding Removal of Jamaican-Born Black Woman, Juliet Steer, from Interfaith Jewish Cemetery

Maria Balaban, 72, and a white member of Congregation Ahavath Achim in Connecticut, has filed a lawsuit demanding to removal of the body of a Jamaican-born black woman, Juliet Steer, from the Jewish cemetery. Maria Balaban alleges that the congregation broke its own rules Juliet Steer was allowed to be buried in an interfaith section of the cemetery.

Steer, who died of cancer in 2010, asked to be buried there because she thought it was peaceful. A representative from the congregation claims that Balaban was motivated by race. Her lawyer denies allegations that she is racist, pointing to her past work as a social worker.

The congregation claims that Balaban, who serves on the its board of directors, initially agreed to have a section set aside in the cemetery for interfaith burials but changed her mind after Steer was buried there. Congregation rules say that plots can be bought by anybody with money, regardless of faith or color.  Source: ABC  News

So, if it’s an interfaith cemetery, what’s the problem? Is it that Maria Balaban has a problem with a black woman buried there? Doesn’t this woman realize that Jews are marrying non-Jews, hence the need for an interfaith cemetery? This is much ado about nothing and one white woman’s quest to disturb the final resting place of a black woman. A court hearing is set for February 29.

Pay attention:  There is a LEGAL CONTRACT that prohibits the burial of non- Jews in THIS cemetery.  The “Interfaith” was created AFTER the original contract, without any vote to amend the original contract.  Besides, Interfaith means there is an established relationship with the religion…. It is not a “NON-DENOMINATIONAL” burial ground.  The arch diocese will not allow the burial of “non baptized” people in a Catholic Cemetery.  The Native Americans will not allow “non-Native Americans” in their burial grounds.  Each RELIGION is allowed to have their faith and stick to their rules without criticism….. It is not a case about color…. If you really read the original article, you would have noticed that Maria Balaban was born in CUBA – therefore she is NOT WHITE but HISPANIC. Furthermore, a month after the burial, there was a memorial service held for Ms. Steer in a CHRISTIAN CHURCH. Funny, these news reporters don’t know how to research their “hot stories” before printing false accusations.

And you yourself are a racist. So what the woman is buried there. Is she bothering anyone? DAMN! Let this woman rest in peace. GOD do not like ugly and she is full of it.

LOL….Maria Balaban is white. Many Cubans are white. Many are unmixed SPANISH and Spain is in Europe and therefore white. Hispanic is not a race. Keep dreamin’. Many “Hispanics” are mixed with black or native american, but many are clearly not, and she is clearly not.

    • Jollo_eight

True that. Plenty of Hispanics are white. Just because you’re born in a place doesn’t change your DNA. You know there are BLACK CUBANS as well? There are even whites from Ireland etc who went to Cuba and now their descendants speak Spanish…guess what, they’re still White. Just like the Black Cubans are still Black! There ain’t a Hispanic race, it’s an ethnicity!

Come on Latinaforeva, what if she is not ‘the chosen one’? Do you have a problem with a Christian neighbor too? Are you also in favor of creating a Jewish state (Jews only clubs) inside US in this age and time? We will implode the country from within with these issues.

Don’t be fooled: Latinaforeva is a sockpuppet of Maria Balaban herself, a username widely used in response to this article.  She herself copies and pastes the exact wording as in the post above all over the place, and her lawsuit uses many of the same arguments and wording, right down to the random CAPSLOCK.

… imagine if somebody was suing to remove a jew from a cemetry … then all hell would break lose

This woman is a sad excuse for a human being.   If she is so concerned; she should have done the research before the lady was buried.  To quote the woman “I didn’t know what she was”.  What the heck is that?  Clearly,  this woman has no place in any position within any religious community.  To Latinaforeva, interesting handle by the way.  I would suggest you  “pay attention”.  I am Roman Catholic and am not sure what modern day Catholic burial grounds of which you speak where non-baptized people are not welcome to be buried.  In fact; I have never heard of a place where only Catholics are buried.  As a Roman Catholic I am sure I would have knowledge of these places.  Lastly, how many Cuban born Jewish people do you know?  The woman converted.  The lady who passed wished to be buried in a Jewish cemetery.  In my opinion she has made a ultimate statement regarding her belief and support for the Jewish community.

I guess when this woman passes, everyone will know what she was!

Maria is ALL that is wrong with people today…leave the lady where she is and get a LIFE!!!!
