Jonesboro police have charged Nehemiah Johnson Jr., 27, with murder and aggravated assault in the death of Riverdale, Ga., mother of two Rochelle Alicia Thomas. Two other people are under investigation for allegedly trying to cover up the death. Nehemiah Johnson Jr. was arrested Tuesday evening on kidnapping, burglary and battery charges for an unrelated case. A real POS. He allegedly strangled Rochelle Alisha Thomas to death in a Jonesboro apartment hours before the burglary, the police said. Investigators believe while he was in jail, two people allegedly tried to clean up evidence of the crime.
Thomas was reported missing Tuesday after she dropped her kids off at the bus stop to catch the school bus and never returned to pick them up in the evening after school. Her body was found partially clothed was found under a blanket in the woods behind the Harmony Crossroads Apartments on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro on Wednesday night.
Rochelle Alicia Thomas operated a “massage service.” Not to speak ill of the dead, but the police said “Mr. Johnson utilized the services of a website that would indicate masseuse or adult entertainment. We believe it was a sex for hire operation.” Thomas was arrested twice in the past 18 months for prostitution in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, the AJC reports. She was also arrested in Fulton, Clayton and Cobb counties in 2008 and 2009 on charges related to drug possession, forgery and lying to police. Her mother said she was trying to turn her life around. I guess she didn’t quite kick those old habits and her kids are left suffering.
