The Newt Gingrich bashing has started, mere hours after he pulled out a major upset of Mitt Romney in the South Carolina primary. Romney surrogate, NJ governor Chris Christie said Newt Gingrich had been ”run out of his speakership by his own party” and is an “embarrassment” to the Republican Party. He said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “I think Newt Gingrich has embarrassed the party, over time. Governor Romney never has.”
When pressed on how Gingrich had embarrassed the Republican party, Christie mentioned said that Gingrich had been pressured to resign from the House of Representatives in 1998 and had been fined for House ethics violations.
“We all know the record,” Christie added. “I mean he was run out of the speakership by his own party, he was fined $300,000 for ethics violations. This is a guy that’s had a very difficult career at times and has been an embarrassment to the party.”
Christie suggested the former House speaker’s record could predict what he would be like as president. ”I’m not saying he will do it again in the future, but sometimes past is prologue,” Christie said. Source: The Hill
I am no big fan of Chris Christie, but I do agree with him that sometimes “past is prologue.” Newt Gingrich is an egomaniac who likes to hear himself speak. I won’t call him a racist, but he’s one of the biggest hypocrites we have seen in a long time. I would almost be willing to bet that Rick Santorum, despite all the strange things he has said in the past, would be a far more credible presidential candidate than admitted adulterer Newt Gingrich.
