Speaker John Boehner on Friday denounced radio host Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” remarks aimed at Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, Politico reports, but he also went after Democrats who have been fundraising off the hot mess. Um, shouldn’t he repudiate it more vehemently than a weak statement that it was “inappropriate?” Well, I find it despicable that Viagra popping Rush Limbaugh denigrated this woman even in the face of being accused of pharmacy-hopping. Typical chauvinism from the so-called right wing. How would Rush Limbaugh like another radio show host to call his wife a slut?
On Wednesday, the radio host disparaged Fluke, saying the law student wants ‘”taxpayers to pay her to have sex.”
“What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?” Limbaugh asked. “What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.” Source
Back to John Boehner — let’s see if he’s going to walk back his slam against Rush Limbaugh as they all do. Funny how we haven’t heard peep out of the likes of Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney. Don’t expect much from Ron Paul, since he told CNN’s Piers Morgan that abortion is warranted only if it is the result of “honest rape.” The Republicans are failing horribly on social issues and they are losing women voters, as they should. It’s also funny that we have yet to hear from Sarah Palin and the denigration of Sandra Fluke.
President Obama also personally reached out to Sandra Fluke to assure her that there are still decent people in this country who value women’s rights. Um, I believe this isn’t his dog-fight and he should stay out of this mess. If anything, VP Joe Biden should have been the one to comment. This whole debate is about to shift since Obama got involved. Carly Fiorina, National Republican Senatorial Committee Vice-Chairman, on Friday also condemned Rush Limbaugh, saying, “that language is insulting, in my opinion. It’s incendiary and most of all, it’s a distraction.”
Sleep Train shouldn’t be the only advertiser pull its business. More advertisers should follow suit. Rush Limbaugh is poison. He has made some rather incendiary and racist statements in the past, but this takes the cake. To call a woman who he doesn’t know a slut and a prostitute is a disgrace. People have been fired or suspended for saying less, so he shouldn’t be held to a higher standard. .
Hey Rush, if you live in a glass house, don’t throw stones. We haven’t forgotten about your pharmacy-hopping when you were on the prowl, day and night for Viagra. Still struggling with your manhood, right?
As for Emily’s List and the Democrats fundraising off this hot mess, shame on you. For once, take a stand for decency and what is right without grovelling for more money. When I saw the email in my in-box, I shook my head. Another ploy to wring money out of our pockets for the wrong reason.
Rush Limbaugh’s slam on Sandra Fluke was not only misogynistic, but it was vitriolic and a downright disgrace. It should be noted that Georgetown’s president John J. DeGioia slammed Rush Limbaugh for his comments, characterizing his behavior as a misrepresentation” of Sandra Fluke’s position at the Congressional hearing. According to CNN, DeGioaia said, ”she was respectful, sincere, and spoke with conviction. This expression of conscience was in the tradition of the deepest values we share as a people. One need not agree with her substantive position to support her right to respectful free expression.”
The bottom line is that I shouldn’t have to pay for someone’s Viagra nor birth control pills. On that point, I agree with Rush Limbaugh, but the things he said along the way were disgraceful and made his position seem inconsequential. Rush Limbaugh is the “guy who kicked the hornet’s nest.”
