BREAKING NEWS: Former NFL star Junior Seau dead at age 43. TMZ is reporting that cops were called to a home in Oceanside, CA, where Seau was staying after reports of gunshots. His housekeeper reportedly found his body. Seau leaves behind four kids and an ex-wife.
12:29 PM PDT — A rep for the Oceanside Police Department just spoke outside Seau’s San Diego house, claiming Seau’s body was initially discovered by Seau’s girlfriend. Authorities responded, and found Seau’s unconscious body inside a bedroom, with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Paramedics attempted to revive Seau, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body is still inside the house.
The rep says investigators recovered a handgun on the scene. The case is being investigated as a suicide.
11:33 AM PDT — Law enforcement sources tell us … Seau died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
We’re told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 kids yesterday saying, “Love you.” We’re told they all responded and didn’t suspect anything was wrong. We’re told he last saw his kids 3 weeks ago. Source
TMZ is also reporting sources close the family didn’t notice any signs of depression in Seau in recent weeks. Junior Seau is yet another former NFL player who committed suicide. Junior Seau becomes the eighth member of the 1994 AFC Champion San Diego Chargers to die. Scary statistic.
