James Willie (James D. Willie) was arrested in two fatal Mississippi highway shootings of Thomas Schlender, 74, and Lori Anne Carswell, 48, on desolate stretches of Interstate 55 on May 8 and Highway 713 near Tunica County on May 11. Willie, 28, is being held on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and rape. He will be formally charged with two counts of capital murder, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said. Willie, who is currently being held at the Tunica County jail, reportedly didn’t pose as a police officer in the shootings as previously thought.
James Willie was arrested Tuesday morning after police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment. He was found with a woman who claimed he raped her. After he was arrested, authorities found a 9mm Ruger in his possession, that later proved to be the same gun sued in the two highway shootings, Fox News reports.
