Ex-pastor Charles Gilford, who once led the Bethel Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, TX, and his wife, Adriane Gilford, are facing charges after stealing nearly $500,000 from their church, with most of it allegedly spent on gambling. Um, doesn’t the Bible speak clearly about gambling? SMH. Charles Gilford was charged with aggregate theft and misapplication of fiduciary property, KHOU reported.

According to KHOU, prosecutors said that between 2004 and 2007, the couple stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the church and used it to fund trips to the Coushatta Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The couple left the church in 2007. This isn’t Adriane Gilford’s first brush with the law. She was charged with check fraud in 2010.
