Akron Restaurant Owner Josephine Ann Harris Dies Hours After Serving Obama Breakfast

R.I.P. JOSEPHINE “ANN” HARRIS: Josephine “Ann” Harris, dies after suffering a heart attack shortly after serving breakfast to President Obama at her family-owned restaurant, Ann’s Place, in Copley Township.

Josephine “Ann” Harris, 70, of Copley Township, was taken by ambulance to Akron General Medical Center after complaining of fatigue and a tingling feeling. She was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m., according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Harris, just a few hours before, had the honor of meeting — and hugging — Obama when he stopped at her family’s restaurant, Ann’s Place, on South Hawkins Avenue for breakfast. This was Obama’s first stop on the second day of a bus tour through Ohio and Pennsylvania. Source: Akron Beacon Journal

SHOCK:  Suicidal mother Lisette Bamenga gave her two kids, five year old Trevor Noel Jr. and his 4-month-old sister Lillian,  ”a fatal drink containing chemical de-icer” and then turning on the gas in her Bronx apartment before attempting suicide by slitting her wrists, the NY Daily News reports. Police reportedly found a suicide note from Bamenga near the bodies of the two kids, saying they would be in “a better place.” The father of the children, Trevor Noel, is a first-year police officer with the New York Police Department.

Bamenga tried sealing the windows of the ninth-floor Nobel Ave. home with plastic and tape before turning on the burners of her gas stove, according to the source.

She then slashed her wrists in a failed attempt to kill herself.

There are no words to describe the immense sorry I feel for these two children and their father. Obviously Lisette Bamenga is mentally ill. How else can you explain why a mother would kill her two children. Could this have been the result of postpartum depression? Still, it’s very sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to both families.

UPDATE#1: Lisette Bamenga, who taught at PS 58 in Brooklyn, was charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of her children, allegedly in retaliation against her husband, a police officer with Manhattan’s 28th Precinct, for having an affair.

Romney Endorser Ted Nugent Wonders If It Would Have Been Best if South Won Civil War, That Would Mean Slavery Would Still Exist

Ted Nugent, whose endorsement Mitt Romney actively sought, said “I’m beginning to wonder if it would have been best had the South won the Civil War.” In other words, the country would have been better off if slavery had won out.  So, that would mean Obama wouldn’t be in the White House as the big kahuna, he would be working for ‘Massa,’ doing odd jobs, shining shoes and sh*t.

Nugent’s screed appeared in the conservative rag the Washington Times today, in which he calls Supreme Court Chief Justice Johns Roberts a “turncoat” for moving to the left on the healthcare ruling. Nugent complained “about a lack of regard for states’ rights. This is coming from the same person who recently made a veiled threat to kill the President.

Um, I wonder how Mitt Romney feels about a key endorser implying that slavery should be the norm, if the South had won the Civil War?

Sharron Mitchell stops her son, Roy Mitchell, of Flowood, MS, as he was about to rob the D’s One Stop Food Mart in Brandon, MS, Tuesday. He tried to rob the store by waving what turned out to be a toy gun at the clerk while paying for a bag of Doritos. Before he could make off with the store’s cash, his mother, who had followed him into the store, intervened and grabbed the gun from his hands, ABC News reports.

Roy Mitchell was arrested and is being held on $300,000 bond, for one charge of attempted armed robbery. Sharron Mitchell should be applauded for intervening in her son’s nefarious deed. Thank you Sharron Mitchell for standing up for that store owner at the expense of turning your son.

ANC Women’s League Outraged Over Zapiro Cartoon Calling Jacob Zuma a “D*ck”

South African President Jacob Zuma is still the butt of penis jokes because of his penchant for sex. Well, the African National Congress’ Women’s League is upset over the latest cartoon that appeared in Friday’s Globe and Mail. They condemned Zapiro’s (real name is Jonathan Shapiro) cartoon featuring an “ere ct penis,” saying he went too far. This comes on the heels of Brett Murray’s “The Spear,” painting of Zuma with an oversized penis and scrotum that is the subject of a court case.

“The Zapiro cartoons rely on their shock value to make an impact, but calling the president of this great nation a ‘dick’ is unacceptable and the [league] would like to know who the ‘we’ he is referring to in the cartoon actually is, as the majority of the population who voted for the president clearly did not think this of Zuma.”

It is obvious that many hold Jacob Zuma in low esteem and the more the ANC bitches, the more caricatures of Jacob Zuma’s manhood we will see in the news media. SMH. There are more important things for the ANC to worry about, such as the high unemployment and murder rates grappling the African nation. I guess the ANC wants to deflect the fact that Zuma’s presidential jet order was cancelled. with all the economic woes, the last thing Zuma needs is a presidential jet.

UPDATE#1 (07/06/12 3:27 PM EST): The ANC is demanding an apology from Jonathan Shapiro and the newspaper remove it from its site. Shapiro said “dissident views are essential for real change.” M&G editor-in-chief Nic Dawes said, “We have no plans to remove the cartoon,” the Mail and Guardian reports.

New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica slams Mitt Romney’s flip-flopping on the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act as a tax, saying “Romney looks more flexible than Gumby every time he starts talking” about Obamacare. Hehe! Yeah, Mitt Romney is a HYPOCRITE in all caps. I know Mike Lupica will be called every name in the book by conservatives, but his column is pretty funny and dead-on about Romney.

Mike Lupica: “At a time when it wouldn’t be the worst idea for Mitt Romney, trying to be the first guy to knock out a sitting President in this country in 20 years, to show some actual backbone, Romney looks more flexible than Gumby every time he starts talking about President Obama’s Affordable Health Care Act. Yoga instructors must watch Romney turn himself into this kind of contortionist and feel almost sick with envy.”

“Once it was entertaining as Romney tried to explain why the individual mandate in his own health care plan when he was governor of Massachusetts was somehow different from Obama’s, when any fool could see that Romney did everything for Obama except show up at the White House and give a Power Point presentation.”

Romney, in fact, gives you so much ridiculous double-talk on an issue that was supposed to help him in November — imagine if Chief Justice John Roberts had gone the other way — he starts to sound like Herman Cain explaining away babes.

Former Oakland Raiders Anthony Wayne Smith Charged with Four Counts of First Degree Murder

Another one bites the dust….Former Oakland Raiders defensive end Anthony Wayne Smith was charged on Monday with four counts of first degree murder, stemming from a 2008 shooting. Smith was the 11th overall pick in the 1990 NFL draft.

REUTERS:  Former Oakland Raiders defensive end Anthony Wayne Smith, whose murder trial stemming from a 2008 shooting death ended in a hung jury, was charged this week with three more Los Angeles County slayings from several years earlier.

The new criminal complaint, filed on Monday, charges Smith, 43, with a total of four counts of first-degree murder, incorporating the original case against him and the kidnap-killings of three other men – one in 1999 and two in 2001.

Special allegations listed in the complaint say the three earlier victims were tortured before being killed.

An arraignment has been set for July 17 on the new charges, and Smith remains held without bond, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Sandi Gibbons, said on Thursday.

Smith’s lawyer, Michael Evans, said his client would plead not guilty to all the charges and that the new criminal complaint came as a “surprise to all of us.”

NEWSFLASH:  U.S. Economy Adds Only 80,000 Jobs in June, Jobless Rate Holds at 8.2 Percent, With the Unemployment rate for blacks edging up at 14.4 Percent. This will set the political narrative for Friday, as the Republicans will come out swinging saying Obama’s policies aren’t working. This is the third straight month of weak hiring that shows the economy is sputtering.

FOX NEWS:  ”The economy has added just 75,000 jobs a month in the April-June quarter. That’s one-third of 226,000 a month created in the first quarter. Job creation is also trailing last year’s pace through the first six months of 2012.”

BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS: The number of unemployed persons (12.7 million) was essentially unchanged in June, and the unemployment rate held at 8.2 percent.

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for blacks (14.4 percent) edged up over the month, while the rates for adult men (7.8 percent), adult women (7.4 percent), teenagers (23.7 percent), whites (7.4 percent), and Hispanics (11.0 percent) showed little or no change. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.3 percent in June (not seasonally adjusted), little changed from a year earlier.

In June, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks
and over) was essentially unchanged at 5.4 million. These individuals
accounted for 41.9 percent of the unemployed.

Both the civilian labor force participation rate and the employment-
population ratio were unchanged in June at 63.8 and 58.6 percent,
respectively.
