REPORT: Usher’s Stepson Kyle Glover Declared Brain Dead Days After Ski Jet Accident on Lake Lanier

TRAGEDY:  Usher’s stepson, 11 year old Kyle Glover (Kile Glover), was declared brain dead by doctors following an accident Friday when he was struck by a jet ski as he was riding in an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Hall County, Ga. According to TMZ, a source said Glover, the son of Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster, has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the Children’s Healthcare at Egleston Hospital and no decision has been made whether or not to take him off life support.

UPDATE#1 (07/09/12): The jet ski driver who hit Kyle Glover and a 15 year old girl as they sat in an inner tube, has been identified as Jeffrey S. Hubbard of Atlanta. No charges have been filed yet and Kyle Glover remains brain dead.

UPDATE#2 (07/10/12):  The family of Kile Glover issued the following statement to CNN Tuesday:  “We know God’s in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time. We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it’s the best way we can all support him now.”

Also, the DNR said alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The investigation continues and charges may be filed.

DNC Releases Video Slamming Mitt Romney Over Fundraiser at Hampton Estate of David Koch

The Democratic National Committee released a video Sunday, ahead of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s fundraiser at the estate of David Koch in the Hamptons, saying that the Koch brothers want something in return for their fundraising efforts, such as policies like oil subsidies that benefit the fabulously wealthy.

From the New York Times:

Mr. Romney is expected to pull in $3 million from an event at the Creeks, the estate of Ronald O. Perelman, the billionaire financier and Revlon chairman, where tickets range from $5,000 for lunch to $25,000 for a V.I.P. photo reception. Another will be held at the home of Clifford M. Sobel, an ambassador to Brazil under President George W. Bush, and a final dinner will take place at the Southampton estate of the billionaire industrialist David H. Koch, where the going rate for entry is $75,000 a couple and $50,000 a person.

Obama Campaign Releases New Web Video Slamming Mitt Romney on Offshore Holdings (CD Traveller)

The Obama campaign is joining Democrats slamming Mitt Romney over his offshore accounts, by releasing a new web video, asking the GOP presidential nominee to answer several questions about a newly reported company in Bermuda. Campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt says in the video: “Isn’t it too much to ask that a candidate for president explain why he chose to invest in other countries that are known as tax havens rather than in the United States?”

The same way President Obama’s patriotism was attacked by the right, so too should Mitt Romney’s patriotism to his country. This raises the question of exactly why he doesn’t want to release his tax returns for previous years prior to 2010 and why he won’t release his 2011 returns until closer to the election. Um, to echo a comment directed at then-Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, “if you put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig.” No matter how Mitt Romney evades this discussion, it still stinks, considering he’s running for the highest position in this country.

Emory University Acquires the Robert Langmuir Collection, One of the Largest Photo Libraries of Black History

Emory University has acquired the Robert Langmuir Collection, one of the largest photo libraries of African American history from the Philadelphia-based collector, the AJC reports.

On its face, this is what the Langmuir collection is, a 12,000-image record of life among working and middle class blacks from the mid-1800s to the early 1960s. But a number of all but the most blatantly racist pictures were taken by African American photographers. There are some notable names in there, photographers such as James Van Der Zee, who chronicled life in Harlem during its renaissance, and Arthur Bedou, a New Orleans artist who was Booker T. Washington’s personal photographer. Source:  AJC

Rev. Ginger Strickland Allegedly Seduced Parishoner With Naked Skype Chats, Meet-Ups in Rectories

Rev. Ginger Strickland sexual misconduct

Rev. Ginger Strickland allegedly seduced parishoner with naked Skype chats, meet-ups  (NY Post)

Rev. Ginger Strickland, a lay pastor at Manhattan’s Church of the Incarnation is accused of seduction and sexual misconduct of a male parishioner, Erik Campano, after a four month affair that included naked webcam meetings on church computers and meet-ups in rectories, the New York Post reports. The church volunteer alleges in a report that Rev. Strickland, 33, used her religious authority to take sexual and emotional advantage of him before abruptly ending their relationship leading to his contemplation of suicide.

“God brought you to me,” Strickland told Erik Campano, 34, during their secret affair — using a line from a textbook on clergy sexual abuse. Their trysts occurred in a Paris rectory and on Skype video chats.

“On her initiation, we are naked . . . over church computers,’’ Campano wrote in a shocking complaint to church leaders obtained by The Post. They broke up about a month before her Dec. 11 ordination. It left him so devastated emotionally and spiritually that he considered suicide, Campano said.

“If you believe your relationship is blessed by God, a breakup means a failure to live out God’s will,” Campano told The Post. Strickland, from a Texas oil baron’s family, and Campano, from Queens, met in late 2010 at the American Church in Paris, where she held a job leading a youth ministry. He was going to medical school, attended services, and — at Strickland’s urging, he said — became a church volunteer. Source:  New York Post

Um, not to take Rev. Strickland’s side, but Erik Campano is a grown man and he knew what he was doing was absolutely wrong, so why let her “cajole” you into a sexual relationship? Why spill the beans when it ended? If the allegations are true, since Campano claims he kept emails and letters with x-rated statements, then Rev. Ginger Strickland is another pimp in the pulpit, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This sounds a lot like Mona Brewer trying to explain her 14 year adulterous relationship with the late Bishop Earl Paulk, who she claims told her he was her way to salvation. Um, really? She knew right from wrong and so did Erik Campano. SMH.
