Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring broadcaster, who was killed during the bloody rampage at the premiere of the new Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises,” in Aurora, Colo., early Friday morning. The gunman, James Egan Holmes, a medical student, is in police custody for the shooting rampage that left 12 dead and 71 wounded.

Jessica Ghawi, who went by the name Jessica Redfield during her stint at Fox 31, where she interned in the sports department, tweeted she was at the movies to watch “Dark Knight Rises.”

It’s shocking to learn that she narrowly escaped being killed during another shooting at a Toronto shopping mall that left one person dead and four others injured. She penned a now eerie post about how she left the scene just moments before that shooting took place. Again, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jessica Ghawi.

Dark Knight Rises Paris Premiere Cancelled Due to James Holmes Shooting Rampage in Colorado

Dark Knight Rises” Paris premiere was cancelled after news broke of the bloody rampage at the Aurora CO showing of the movie, that left 12 dead, 50 injured and gunman James Holmes in police custody. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the media interviews with director Christopher Nolan and cast members, Anne Hathaway, Christian Bale and Morgan Freeman have been cancelled.

The Washington Examiner is reporting that the bloody rampage is eerily similar to a 1986 Batman cartoon:

The horrific shooting at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado late last night bears eerie similarities to a scene in the 1986 comic Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. In the comic, a crazed, gun-toting loner walks into a movie theater and begins shooting it up, killing three in the process. The passage concludes with the media blaming Batman for inspiring the shooting, though he is not involved in the incident at all.

The 1986 comic, written and drawn by Frank Miller, was a key inspiration for the Chris Nolan Batman films. It helped to reimagine the character away from his Saturday morning cartoon image and into a dark, grim avenger. The point of this particular scene in the comic was to show just how far Gotham has fallen since Batman had retired.

Report: Mitt Romney Was Still in Charge of Bain Capital During Retroactive Retirement

The Boston Globe is out with a new story about Mitt Romney’s retroactive retirement from Bain Capital. The report shows Mitt Romney played a far greater role after he supposedly left in 1999 than he has let on.

Interviews with a half-dozen of Romney’s former partners and associates, as well as public records, show that he was not merely an absentee owner during this period. He signed dozens of company documents, including filings with regulators on a vast array of Bain’s investment entities. And he drove the complex negotiations over his own large severance package, a deal that was critical to the firm’s future without him, according to his former associates.

“The elephant in the room was not whether Mitt was involved in investment decisions but Mitt’s retention of control of the firm and therefore his ability to extract a huge economic benefit by delaying his giving up of that control,” said one former associate, who, like some other Romney associates, spoke only on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for the company. James Holmes Aurora Batman gunman

Former medical student James Holmes Identified as the Aurora Batman Movie  Premier Gunman

NEWSFLASH:  James Holmesis in police custody for the shooting rampage at showing of new Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises.” Twelve dead, scores injured, including three month old baby. The suspect’s apartment building has been evacuated. James Holmes, originally of San Diego, CA, was a medical student at the University of Colorado Denver campus, pursuing a PhD, sources told ABC News.

James Holmes, 24,  of Aurora, has been identified as a white male, whose only brush with the law was a traffic ticket in 2011. He was caught in the parking lot of the Century 16 Movie Theaters, outside Denver, after police began receiving dozens of 911 calls at 12:39 a.m. MT. Police said the man appeared to have acted alone.

Witnesses in the movie theater said Holmes crashed into the auditorium through an emergency exit about 30 minutes into the film, set off a smoke bomb, and started shooting. He then reportedly stalked the aisles of the theater, shooting at random, witnesses said. A baby was shot at point blank range.

“The suspect throws tear gas in the air, and as the tear gas appears he started shooting,” said Lamar Lane, who was watching the midnight showing of the movie with his brother. “It was very hard to breathe. I told my brother to take cover. It took awhile. I started seeing flashes and screaming, I just saw blood and people yelling and a quick glimpse of the guy who had a gas mask on. I was pushed out. There was chaos, we started running.”

Police said 10 victims died inside the theater, while dozens of others were taken to local hospitals, including a child as young as 6 years old. Source

Our society has become so depraved and sadistic, as evidenced from the myriad of mass shooting, murder-suicides, domestic violence incidents, homicides and so on. We cannot continue down this path. Muslim extremists aren’t all we need to worry about. Homegrown terrorists like James Holmes are wreaking havoc on innocent Americans.

President Obama offered support for the people of Colorado, saying:

The Hill:   “Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado,” he said. “Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my Administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time.”

Mitt Romney said:  “Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence that took the lives of 15 people in Colorado and injured dozens more,” Romney said. “We are praying for the families and loved ones of the victims during this time of deep shock and immense grief. We expect that the person responsible for this terrible crime will be quickly brought to justice.”

CNN:  President Barack Obama’s campaign said Friday it was canceling the second of two campaign events following a deadly shooting at a movie theater in Colorado. He will address the shooting at a first event at 11:20 a.m. ET in Fort Myers and then return to the White House. Meanwhile, the campaign of presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney said Friday it would continue with planned political events.
