Mitt Romney campaign high-profile surrogate John Sununu apologizes today for saying earlier in the day Tuesday that he wishes President Obama “would learn how to be an American.” It should be noted that it’s hypocritical on so many levels for John Sununu to attack Obama’s “American-ness” because he was born in Cuba of Palestinian and Greek descent.

NY Daily News:  Sununu said Obama’s rhetoric “clearly demonstrated that he has absolutely no idea” how the American economy functions.“The men and women all over America who — who have worked hard to build these businesses, their businesses, from the ground up is how our economy became the envy of the world,” he went on.“It is the American way. And I wish this president would learn how to be an American.” When questioned about the comment, Sununu backtracked — instead saying that Obama “has to learn the American formula for creating businesses,” ABC reported.

Um, who’s doing the apologizing? Not the Obama campaign as Mitt Romney demanded for blasting him over his tax returns and his departure date at Bain Capital. Another bad day for Mitt Romney. John Sununu went to Def-Con 1 with his slam on President Obama’s patriotism. This didn’t help the Republicans in 2008 and it won’t help them in 2012. Sununu left his term on the national stage in disgrace. He was caught using military jets for personal travel, including ski trips and dental appointments, and was pushed out of the White House. In fact, he stole $635,000 from American taxpayers like you and I. I’m sure President Obama doesn’t envy Mitt Romney’s  friends.

On MSNBC’s “Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell, Charles Blow said the Romney campaign sends Sununu, everybody’s favorite drunk uncle to attack President Obama and show the public he’s different.
