FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER: Watauga County (NC) Sheriff’s Deputy William Mast Jr., 24, was shot and killed while he and another deputy responded to a call at a trailer home in Deep Gap, NC, early Thursday morning. A male subject opened fire, killing the deputy. The suspect was killed when the other deputy returned fire.
“It is a sad day for the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and the Watauga County community,” Sheriff Len Hagaman said. “Office Mast was a friend and asset to our force and to his community,” Sheriff Len Hagaman told WSOCTV. The name of the suspect has not been released. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Deputy William Mast Jr.
