Usain Bolt slams Carl Lewis:  Usain Bolt, fresh off his historic 200m finals gold medal win, ripped Carl Lewis to shreds saying, “I have no respect for him,” in response to remarks Lewis made about the Jamaican team and doping in track.

Usain Bolt said:  “I’m going to say something controversial. Carl Lewis – I have no respect for him. The things he says about the track athletes are very downgrading. I think he’s just looking for attention, because nobody really talks about him. I’ve lost all respect for him. All respect.”

Carl Lewis made some troubling assertions in an interview with the UK Telegraph:

“No one is accusing anyone,” Lewis told the Telegraph. “But don’t live by a different rule and expect the same kind of respect. They [Jamaican track officials] say, ‘Oh, we’ve been great for the sport.’ No, you have not. No country has had that kind of dominance. I’m not saying they’ve done anything for certain. I don’t know. But how dare anybody feel that there shouldn’t be scrutiny, especially in our sport?

“The reality is that if I were running now, and had the performances I had in my past, I would expect [doping critics] to say something. I wouldn’t even be offended at the question. So when people ask me about Bolt, I say he could be the greatest athlete of all time. But for someone to run 10.03 one year and 9.69 the next, if you don’t question that in a sport that has the reputation it has right now, you’re a fool. Period.” Source

Um, let me just school Carl Lewis on track and field in Jamaica — it’s as much ingrained in the culture as reggae music and jerked chicken or pork is. Kids start running at an early age. I am speaking from experience, having spent my formative years in Jamaica. We ran track, whether it’s sprints or even cross-country. We have a long and proud history of sprinters, from Arthur Wint, Herb McKinley, Donald Quarrie, Merlene Ottey to Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Warren Weir and so many. Yeah, and let me also claim Sanya Richards-Ross, who was born in Jamaica but runs for the U.S. Not because some American athletes have history of doping does it mean anybody else who excels does. Marion Jones was a disgrace. Where was Carl Lewis then, when she was breaking all kinds of records, race after race? Don’t recall any Jamaicans serving jail time for lying under oath over doping.

Conservative Group, ‘Jews and Christians Together’ Sending Dump Romney Memo to RNC Delegates

Conservative Group, ‘Jews and Christians Together’ Sending Dump Romney Memo to RNC Delegates (Buzzfeed)

Dump Romney:  A group called “Jews and Christians Together” is sending a memo to Republican National Convention delegates urging them not to vote for Mitt Romney at the convention, even if they’re bound to him, Buzzfeed reports.

What if Mitt Romney is not inevitable at Tampa? What if his nomination makes four more years for President Obama all but inevitable? What if it’s true that, despite Obama’s governing ineptitude, the Republican frontrunner is already losing the Electoral College in a rout which threatens GOP Senate prospects in the overlapping swing states? And, what if that’s before all the ugly stuff really hits the fan?

Few Tampa delegates have had any disclosure on the racially-toxic texts to which Willard M. Romney is tied – and which he has yet to repudiate; same with the anti-Semitic writings. No disclosure, either, on Romney’s role as America’s Founding Father of Gay Marriage, the reason Obama could safely come out. Without a Tampa game-changer, we’ll soon see how it all ties in to Romney’s Big Problem, the core reason he can’t carry the toss-ups.

“Purple State” voters already get it that ObamaCare is simply coercive RomneyCare writ large – each a punitive tax program for nonetheless bankrupting new entitlements, each illustrating why neither author should be President. This fall, however, left-allied media will also be spinning our “No Apologies” social engineer, quite plausibly, as a liar and loony: For a catalog of troubling character issues, click The Romney Files or this Romney robo-audio; they’re examples of what millions of voters have already been receiving in battleground states like MI, WI, PA and OH – and partly why, despite a weak economy and incumbent, Romney’s already losing the Electoral College so badly.

[…]

And, it’s within the power of Tampa’s delegates to dump Romney. (See page 77). He can’t win. Or more precisely, after months of campaigning, at a time when the U.S. economy is at its lowest point in decades, and against one of the most inept Presidents in U.S. history, if Romney’s trailing as badly as he is now… the odds are very long he can close this fall.

Fox News Poll Shows Obama Widening Lead Over Presumptive GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney

Fox News reports that Obama’s lead over Mitt Romney is widening. Um, this must have been really hard for them to report, considering people like Sean Hannity, Gretchen Carlson, Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, Mike Huckabee and Bill O’Reilly, as well their so-called pundits, can’t bear the thought of Obama much less dropping his name on the set.

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney’s 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.

There was also an uptick in support for Obama among women, blacks and Democrats. Source

A CNN poll also shows Obama leading Romney, holding a seven-point lead. Some scoffed at Nate Silver’s assessment earlier this week that Obama could win by a landslide. While I don’t think that will be the case, I do think he will manage to win reelection, barring any scandals. Mitt Romney was bloodied by Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich during the primary season and Obama just picked up where they left off. They defined Mitt Romney even before the Obama team got to him.

Rep. Joe Walsh Accused of Racial Insensitivity by Color of Change for Referring to President Obama as “Son”

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) has been accused of using racially insensitive language aimed at denigrating President Obama by referring to his as “son.” At a campaign barbecue in his district Sunday, Walsh talked about what he hopes will be the tea party’s role in the election:

“There’s something different on the ground, and I think it’s going to overtake us all again, think it’s going to overtake the political class. I think it’s going to respectfully pick this president up and pat him on the head and say, son, son, son, Mr. President, you were never ready to be president, now go home and work for somebody and find out how the real world works.” Source

The group Color of Change believes Joe Walsh’s intention was to denigrate the president, accusing him of using racially inflammatory language:

“Once again, Rep. Joe Walsh has decided to stoke racial fears about President Barack Obama in order to leverage support for his own campaign,” Color Of Change Executive Director Rashad Robinson said in a statement. “His comments not only demonstrate the lack of respect for President Obama’s position, but also for the millions of American voters who elected him into office in 2008.” Source

Joe Walsh is no stranger to controversy, having put his foot in his mouth many times, including slamming Iraq war veteran and double amputee Tammy Duckworth as using her service as a campaign tool in her race against him and not being a true hero. This is also the same candidate who was hauled before a judge for not paying child support to his ex-wife for their children.

American Sunrise Super PAC Attacks Rep. Allen West, Portrays Him Punching White Women, Taking Money from Black Family

Rep. Allen West is being portrayed in an attack ad, which shows him hitting a white woman. The American Sunrise PAC, founded by Thomas Murphy Jr., uses a caricature of him portraying him as a boxer who smacks around women and takes away money from middle class families. I am no fan of Rep. Allen West, but damn. That’s a bit much.

In case you don’t know, Thomas Murphy Jr., who is the CEO of Miami-based Coastal Construction Group, is the father of West’s general election opponent Patrick Murphy. He reportedly kicked in $250,000 to the super PAC, Shark Tank reports.

The American Sunrise PAC has launched its first attack ad against Congressman Allen West. The political action committee was founded by the father of Congressman West’s general election opponent Democrat Patrick Murphy. Personally, I don’t like the mess these super PACs are causing. Anyone with the right amount of money and connections can start a super PAC for all the wrong reasons.

Jamaican Sweep: Usain Bolt Makes History Wins 200M Olympics Final, Yohan Blake Second, Warren Weir Third

Usain Bolt Makes History Wins 200M Olympics Final, Yohan Blake takes silver, Warren Weir takes bronze as Jamaica shuts out American Wallace Spearmon.

Afterward, Bolt had plenty of energy left, dropping to the track to do five pushups — one for each of his Olympic gold medals so far. Ever the showman, he bent down and kissed the track, then did it again a few minutes later, and also grabbed a camera from someone in the photographers’ well and trained it at the group who were clicking away. Former Rep. Thad McCotter Staffers Don Yowchuang, Paul Seewald, Mary Melissa Turnbull, Lorianne O’Brady Arrested in Petition Forgery Case

Four staffers of former U.S. Rep. Thad McCotter (R-Livonia) were charged in connection with the false nominating petitions that led to his departure from Congress. Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette characterized the four suspects as “not simply Keystone Kops running amok…criminal acts were committed’ and that their actions “would make an elementary art teacher cringe.” Um, so was Thad McCotter oblivious to their shenanigans?

The four staffers arrested are:

Don Yowchuang 33, of Farmington Hills, the deputy district director, was charged with 10 counts of election law forgery, a five-year felony; one count of conspiracy to commit a legal act in an illegal manner, a 5-year felony, and six counts of falsely signing a nominating petition, all misdemeanors.

• Paul Seewald, 47, of Livonia, the district director, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit a legal act in an illegal manner, nine counts of falsely signing a nominating petition.

• Mary Melissa Turnbull, 58, of Howell, district representative, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit a legal act in an illegal manner and one count of falsely signing a nominating petition.

• Lorianne O’Brady, former scheduler, 52, of Livonia was charged with five counts of falsely signing a nominating petition. Source

Mitt Romney on Not Releasing More Tax Returns: “I’m Not a Business”

Mitt Romney has a new reason for why he won’t release any more tax returns — “I’m not a business.” Um, so, was his father, George Romney a business? Wait, wasn’t Mitt Romney the same person who said ‘corporations are people?” The tax return issue will follow him straight through to the November elections, unless either he or Obama implodes before we get there. Romney made this revelation during an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek.

Bloomberg asked Romney whether, if he was investing in a company, he would want to see more than two years of financial reports, likening that process to the American people electing a president. But Romney suggested the standards aren’t the same for people and businesses.

“I’m not a business,” he said. “We have a process in this country, which was established by law, which provides for the transparency which candidates are required to meet. I have met with that requirement with full financial disclosure of all my investments, but in addition have provided and will provide a full two years of tax returns.” Source:  Washington Post

Vote for me but I won’t tell you who I am and what I really stand for. When will we see some tough questions being asked of both candidates and not softball interviews?

Here are some remarks from Obama’s campaign event in Colorado Wednesday, where he hammered at Romney saying he wanted to take women back to the 1950s. Wasn’t a cake walk for black women then either:

And that’s true for everybody.  But it’s especially true for the women in this country — from working moms to college students to seniors.  Because when it comes to the economy, it’s bad enough that our opponents want to take us back to the same policies of the last decade, the same policies that got us into this mess in the first place, the same policies that saw jobs going overseas and ended up seeing people’s wages and incomes going down even as the costs of everything from health care to college were going up — policies that culminated in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and that we’ve spent, now, three and a half years trying to recover from.  That’s bad enough.   But when it comes to a woman’s right to make her own health care choices, they want to take us back to the policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st century.

Picture of the Day: Naomi Campbell’s Receding Hairline and the Dangers of Hair Weaves

Picture of the Day:  Naomi Campbell is one of the world’s leading supermodels, but that all came at a stiff price — a tore up hairline that keeps receding further back. That’s courtesy of her reliance on hair extensions and weaves for most of her modeling career.

It is preposterous that some people in the black community are giving gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas a hard time over her hair. Naomi Campbell is living proof of what can happen when you rely on hair weaves and extensions to the extreme. This picture isn’t meant to mock Naomi Campbell, but we need to talk about the nexus between black women and their hair. On the flip side, her hair loss could be genetic.

Melvin and Pauline Morse Facing Four Felonies for ‘Waterboarding’ 11 Year Old Daughter

SHOCK:  Pediatrician Melvin Morse and wife Pauline Morse were arrested Wednesday in Delaware after police learned they were using a form of torture — waterboarding — to discipline their 11 year old daughter. Melvin and Pauline Morse were charged with four felony counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to Delaware State Police, the couple’s 11-year-old daughter was taken to a Child Advocacy Center on Aug. 6 for an interview about an alleged previous assault by her father.

During the course of the interview, the girl said her father had punished her by what he called “waterboarding.” On several occasions beginning in 2009, she said, Melvin Morse held her face under a running faucet, causing water to flood up her nose and run over her face, police said. The girl’s mother witnessed several of the incidents and failed to stop them, police said.
