NY State Senator Shirley Huntley to Surrender to Police Monday, Though Claims Ignorance on Possible Charges (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Shirley Huntley, a state senator from Queens NY, called an  “emergency press conference” Saturday to announce that she would surrender to police on Monday. Huntley’s employees were accused of misusing state funds last year. She claimed that she “doesn’t know what charges” she is actually facing. Um, then why call a press conference to say you are going to surrender to police? The state attorney general’s office responded to Shirley Huntley’s announcement saying, “The appropriate forum in which to respond to the senator is a court of law, where the attorney general will prove all facts according to the rules of evidence. Those facts will speak for themselves.”

Ms. Huntley, 74, was first elected to the Senate in 2006. She had previously served as the president of a community school board. She was one of three Democrats who opposed the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2009 but switched positions to support it last year, contributing to its passage. She has not, however, been a particularly visible presence in Albany; she missed more votes during this year’s legislative session than any other senator, according to an analysis by the New York Public Interest Research Group. I am sure Ms. Huntley has enough commonsense to have a lawyer, so feigning ignorance on what possible charges she is facing is strange, very strange. One of her aides and three others have been arrested.

GUN VIOLENCE RISING: The gun violence continues to rage in certain pockets across the U.S., including Chicago where Rashad Pratt was killed and at least 16 others wounded across the city between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Rashad Pratt was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside a SUV parked near the corner of 91st Street and South East End Avenue on the South Side of Chicago about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, the Chicago Tribune reports. Four teenagers are among the wounded.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is under pressure to do something about this growing gun violence. He announced at a recent press conference that a dozen reputed gang members were arrested.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rashad Pratt’s wife and family. How many more people have to die before something is done about the guns on the streets?

Rupert Murdoch Tweets Support for Prince Harry After The Sun Tabloid Prints the Naked Pictures

Rupert Murdoch pimps the news

HYPOCRITE: Rupert Murdoch tweets support of Prince Harry over the nude pictures of him cavorting in a Las Vegas hotel suite. Rupert Murdoch coming to Prince Harry’s defense shouldn’t be taken at face value, since this comes after his News International publishing division’s The Sun tabloid prints the pictures of the naked prince.

Of course, Rupert Murdoch would have the general public believe he really cares about Prince Harry, all the while his paper has broken with other British papers’ agreement not to publish the pictures out of respect for the monarchy.

It comes after Friday’s edition of The Sun tabloid newspaper, owned by Murdoch’s News International publishing division, printed the grainy, cell phone snaps of the 27-year-old prince larking about with an unnamed woman in his hotel suite in Vegas.

More than 850 complaints have been made to the press watchdog the Press Complaints Commission about The Sun’s decision to break ranks with the British media and be the only one to publish the pictures.

Nearly all the complaints are about invasion of privacy and are to be investigated in due course. The Independent reported that Murdoch himself was involved personally in the decision to print the pictures which The Sun’s managing editor David Dinsmore told the media was a matter of principle concerning press freedom. Ron Paul Doesn’t ‘Fully Endorse’ Mitt Romney for President, Turns Down Convention Speech Invitation (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Libertarian favorite Ron Paul doesn’t ‘fully endorse’ Mitt Romney for president. Um, trouble for Romney among Paul supporters? The Romney campaign gave Rep. Paul a chance to speak at the convention, but he turned it down due to the conditions of the offer, the New York Times reports:

Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.

“It wouldn’t be my speech,” Mr. Paul said. “That would undo everything I’ve done in the last 30 years. I don’t fully endorse him for president.”

FL Republican Leader Lenny Curry Labels Charlie Crist as ‘Repugnant’ for Endorsing President Obama

FL Republican Leader Lenny Curry Labels Charlie Crist as ‘Repugnant’ for Endorsing President Obama (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Expect former Florida Republican Gov. Charlie Crist to be called every name in the book by Republicans, including Judas, for endorsing President Obama over his Republican opponent Mitt Romney. In fact, Florida Republican Party Chairman Lenny Curry labels Charlie Crist as ‘repugnant’ for the endorsement as Hurricane Isaac bears down on the state. Crist endorsed Obama in a Tampa Bay Times op-ed in which he excoriates his former party:

As Republicans gather in Tampa to nominate Mitt Romney, Americans can expect to hear tales of how President Obama has failed to work with their party or turn the economy around.

But an element of their party has pitched so far to the extreme right on issues important to women, immigrants, seniors and students that they’ve proven incapable of governing for the people. Look no further than the inclusion of the Akin amendment in the Republican Party platform, which bans abortion, even for rape victims.

The truth is that the party has failed to demonstrate the kind of leadership or seriousness voters deserve.

Pundits looking to reduce something as big as a statewide election to a single photograph have blamed the result of my 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate on my greeting of President Obama. I didn’t stand with our president because of what it could mean politically; I did it because uniting to recover from the worst financial crisis of our lifetimes was more important than party affiliation. I stood with our nation’s leader because it was right for my state.

President Obama has a strong record of doing what is best for America and Florida, and he built it by spending more time worrying about what his decisions would mean for the people than for his political fortunes. That’s what makes him the right leader for our times, and that’s why I’m proud to stand with him today.

Crist is now a registered independent, as many people are, but the Republicans are clearly upset that he endorsed Obama and the Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry labeled the one-time governor as “repugnant,” saying:

Today we have seen a repugnant display from a self-centered, career politician. While the people of Florida, and thousands of visitors who’ve traveled here, are facing an emergency, Charlie Crist has demonstrated, yet again, that his political ambition will always come first.

Beyond the appalling timing of this move, Crist now professes his support for Barack Obama despite spending his entire political career bashing the political agenda that Obama advances. Crist in 2010 said ‘I don’t agree with the guy on hardly anything he does.’ Source

No matter how the Republicans spin this, it’s proof that many people still haven’t warmed up to Mitt Romney and his side-kick Paul Ryan. But Charlie Crist and Mitt Romney have something in common — flip-flopping or mysterious evolution, as I prefer to call it. Before his 2010 Senate run, he supported these policies:

Crist supported capital punishment[24] and gun rights. In 2008 he signed a provision that prevents employers from prohibiting employees’ bringing firearms to the workplace, as long as the weapons are secure and individuals maintain a concealed carry license.[25][26]

His position on abortion issues is not clear-cut.[27] In 1998 Crist ran for Senate as a pro-choice candidate,[27] and has stated that he opposes overturning Roe vs. Wade.[27][28] Crist has said that he opposes a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before a woman can undergo an abortion.[27] In the 2010 Senate campaign, Crist first presented himself a pro-life Republican[29] but after he lost the Republican nomination and became an unaffiliated candidate, had all pro-life statements removed from his website.[30] On June 11, 2010 Crist vetoed a bill which would have removed taxpayer funding for abortion,[31] as well as require a woman to have an ultrasound before having an abortion.[32]

People change positions. I no longer consider myself a Democrat, but an Independent, who leans conservative on some issues. It’s quite possible that Charlie Crist was always more moderate than he let on, much like Mitt Romney, who governed as a moderate but is masquerading as a ‘severely conservative’ Republican. The Republicans have come out swinging against Crist, showing that they are more desperate than they let on.
