Fox News’ Juan Williams is going to catch heat for saying, ““looks to me like a corporate wife. The stories she told about struggles are hard for me to believe. I mean, she’s a very rich women.” Juan Williams made the comment after hearing Mrs. Romney talk about their struggles during their early marriage, saying: “Our desk was a door propped up on sawhorses. Our dining room table was a fold down ironing board in the kitchen.” Juan Williams will come under blistering criticism like Hilary Rosen did when she said Ann Romney never worked a day in her life.

UPDATE#1:  The Romney campaign responded:  Mitt Romney’s campaign charged Wednesday that Fox News analyst Juan Williams ’s comments labeling Ann Romney a “corporate wife” after her convention speech were “unfair” and “deeply disappointing.”

“We respect our colleagues in media and appreciate they too have invested a lot to be here to cover the convention,” a Romney aide said in a statement to POLITICO. “But, Juan’s comments are deeply disappointing: Not only were they unfair and personal, they were wrong.”

Ann Romney Claims Poverty In Early Years, Says Desk was a Door Propped Up on Sawhorses

Ann Romney feigns poverty during speech at Republican National Convention, says: “Our desk was a door propped up on sawhorses. Our dining room table was a fold down ironing board in the kitchen.” Um, that’s while they both had stock portfolios. So much for poverty. Under Mitt Romney, she said Massachusetts schools were the best in the nation. Could someone please fact check her statement. Ann Romney closed by saying, “You can trust Mitt. He loves America. He will take us to a better place, just as he took me home safely from that dance.” Excuse me while I throw up. So much for Barack and Michelle Obama hating America so much that they wanted to lead it as president and first lady. No, just trust Mitt, he has our backs — like his sidekick Paul Ryan.

To be fair, Ann Romney delivered a good speech and tried to paint her husband in as humane as possible. Don’t know if it worked, since Mitt Romney says “I am who I am,” channeling Popeye. I actually think she overshadowed her husband quite a bit and we are no closer to liking Mitt Romney than we were yesterday morning. I am no big fan of Mitt Romney, but Ann Romney is a likable person.

Here’s an interesting take from The New York Times;

Ann Romney is so gifted at politics, she may actually make her husband look a little bad. Their personality gap — her ease, his discomfort — has been evident in most of the many joint interviews they have given television reporters.

But it really stood out during her bold, boisterous testimonial to him at the Republican convention on Tuesday night. She was electric — when Mitt Romney came to her side at the end, he somehow sapped the energy from the moment.

From Peggy Noonan, former Reagan speech writer:

“Ann Romney was stunning, sweet, full of enthusiasm, a little shy, a little game for the battle. Her speech was fine. … I have just spent the past two and a half days talking to people who’ve known Mitt Romney well for ten, twenty and thirty years, even more. They love him, and in all their conversations they say either literally or between the lines, ‘If only you knew him like I do.’ It is their mantra. They mean it, and they are so frustrated. … [I]really is a bit of a mystery. If he’s so good why can’t his goodness be communicated? …

John Boehner: Mitt Romney’s Favorability Lagging Because He’s a ‘Very Shy and Humble Guy’

John Boehner - Caricature

House Speaker John Boehner offered a new reason for Mitt Romney unfavorability — he’s shy. WTF? Boehner told CNN (with a straight face), “Listen, he’s a very shy guy and a humble guy. “He doesn’t like to talk about himself. It’s just who he is. But I’ve known Mitt Romney for a long time — decent, honest, hardworking guy,” The Hill reports.

PHOENIX MURDER-SUICIDE: Dallas Augustine and another woman, thought to be Jessie McCaskill, were found dead in their Phoenix home Monday night in an apparent murder-suicide. Dallas Augustine, the daughter of former state controller Kathy Augustine, who was murdered in 2006 by husband Chaz Higgs, had married Jessie McCaskill on Sept. 22, 2007, in Coronado, Calif. Police suspect Dallas Augustine killed Jessie McCaskill and then committed suicide.

KLAS-TV reports that the Phoenix Police Department said there was evidence at the scene that suggested a struggle between the two ended with a murder-suicide and one of the two appeared be packing their belongings to leave the home.

Dallas Augustine was a corrections officer with the Arizona Department Corrections, though it is not clear how long she had been employed in the position.

Columbia University Freshman Martha Corey-Ochoa Commits Suicide by Jumping From Dorm

Columbia University student Martha Corey-Ochoa committed suicide by jumping from the dormitory at John Jay Hall last night. She was 18 years old, the Columbia Spectator reports. The initial reports from the NY Post said the incident was being treated as an “apparent accident,” though  DNAinfo and the Daily News disagree, citing her history of psychiatric illness. The investigation into Martha Corey-Ochoa’s suicide is ongoing.

Corey-Ochoa graduated as valedictorian from Dobbs Ferry High School, north of the city, and was “passionate about mathematics and literature, and recognized as a very talented writer,” according to an e-mail sent to students by a university dean. “It’s a time that our community needs to pull together and support one another,” he wrote. “Our returning students should keep in mind our first-year students have just gotten here, and they are developing contacts and relationships and should be sensitive and reach out to one another.” Source:  Columbia Spectator

LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Slams GOP: “You Can’t Trot Out a Brown Face” And Expect Latino Votes

LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Slams GOP: “You Can’t Trot Out a Brown Face” And Expect Latino Votes (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa slammed the Republican Party for its stance on immigration, telling reporters on Tuesday that the party’s latest goodwill effort isn’t going to cut it withLatino voters and you “can’t trot out a brown face” and expect to get Latino votes:

Talking Points Memo:  “You can’t just trot out a brown face or a Spanish surname and expect people are going to vote for your party.

“This is a party with a platform that calls for the self-deportation of 11 million people,” he said. “What country in the world has ever deported 11 million people?”

A slew of recent polls show Romney scraping bottom with Latino voters — behind even John McCain’s disastrous 2008 performance. Villaraigosa predicted Democrats would garner “close to 70 percent of the Latino vote.”

Of course, the Republicans have no shame. They expect that trotting Marco Rubio on stage to deliver a speech will appease Latinos and they will vote for Romney in droves on November 6, despite saying illegal immigrants (which many aren’t Latino) should self-deport.

SHOCK:  Sixteen year old John Freeman will be charged as an adult for the murder of five year old Isabella Tennant, and his friend, Tyler Best, 18, was charged with tampering with evidence, after the five year old’s body dumped in a trash can up Niagara Falls, New York. An autopsy on Tennant is scheduled for Tuesday.

The arrests came after Best came to police Monday morning and led them to a garbage can containing a trash bag holding Isabella’s body. He told them he had helped Freeman dispose of it after Freeman had killed her, police said.

Police have charged Freeman as an adult, and he faces a murder charge. Best is charged with tampering with evidence.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, Niagara Falls Chief Detective William Thompson said there were signs of injuries but no indication of sexual abuse. Source

John Freeman was reportedly a trusted friend of the family. This was such a senseless act of violence against Isabella Tennant. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Chicago Gun Violence: Rashad Pratt Murdered in His Car Not Far From President Obama’s Chicago Home

Chicago resident Rashad Pratt murdered

Chicago Gun Violence: Rashad Pratt Murdered in His Car Not Far From President Obama’s Chicago Home (Photo credit: Facebook)

I first reported on the untimely death of Chicago resident Rashad Pratt Sunday, but I am appealing to the public  for help in solving his murder. When I first reported on the murder, it was in the context of the alarming rise in gun violence in Chicago, President Obama’s home state. Sixteen people, including four teens , were shot and Rashad Pratt killed in a 24 hour period from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.

I was also shocked beyond words when his sister sent me a message on Facebook to say that was her brother. His sister and I have developed a friendship over the years by virtue of blogging and political commentary. Cheri guest-blogged on The Hinterland Gazette a few times and I did the same on her website. I also appeared on her radio show as the results were coming in for the last presidential election, so it is particularly personal that I appeal for help from the public to solve her brother’s murder. Cheri can be found on Axiom Amnesia.

It is ironic that we are in the midst of another presidential election and the dialogue about gun violence hasn’t changed but has intensified. This runaway gun violence is happening in President Obama’s backyard. In fact, Rashad Pratt was killed not far from Obama’s Chicago home.  Rashad Pratt’s family is at a loss as to who could have taken this doting father to daughter Amora, son and brother from his family.

Here is an excerpt from the Justice for Rashad Pratt Facebook page:

Rashad Pratt (March 10, 1984 to August 26, 2012)

On the early morning hours of 8/26/2012, Rashad Pratt was savagely murdered, and was found in his vehicle moments later on the corner of 91st and East End in Chicago. Right now, this is basically all we know, and we need your help finding out what happened to Rashad.

[…]From the family:

We loved Rashad so very much, and we NEED to know what happened to him. He left behind a grieving wife, daughter, parents, siblings, extended relatives and supportive friends. He was a victim of Chicago’s gun violence and will never ever be forgotten. We love him very much and appreciate all of the condolences that are being offered. Thank you all for your kind words and support in this dark time. We will keep you all updated on events to come. We ask that if anyone has any information regarding his death to please contact us, as we are all searching for answers to this senseless tragedy.
I am appealing to the politicians to step up to the plate and help the residents of any community across the U.S. that is mired by gun violence to say enough is enough and fight to eradicate the self-destruction that is taking place in our communities.  We cannot afford for Rashad Pratt, who was born in a family of achievers and decent, law-abiding Americans, to become another statistic in the Chicago Police Department files. To the residents, if you think you saw something, please call the police and tell them, no matter how small. Rashad Pratt’s death shouldn’t go unsolved.

Father of Baltimore High School Shooter Robert Wayne Gladden Jr., Says He was Being Bullied

Father of Baltimore High School Shooter Robert Wayne Gladden Jr., Says He was Being Bullied (Police Handout)

Robert Wayne Gladden Jr. is being held without bail on charges of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault in the Perry Hall High School shooting Monday. The 15 year old sophomore made references to murder-suicide on his Facebook page before shooting a student, Daniel Borowy,  in the cafeteria Monday.

Gladden’s father told The Associated Press that his son had been bullied, although he did not provide details. The teen’s last status update on his Facebook page, posted the morning of the shooting, read: “First day of school, last day of my life. … fuck the world.”

Gladden also referred to mass murderer Charles Manson and gave himself the nickname “SuicidalSmile.” The page, identified by classmates as belonging to the suspected shooter, was just launched in July, and the three photos of Gladden all show his face hidden behind long, dark hair. He describes himself as a “metalhead” and a fan of musicians Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. Source

One problem with Robert Gladden Sr.’s bullying excuse, Daniel Borowy, who has Down’s Syndrome, so I seriously doubt he bullied Bobby Gladden. There is no excuse for a teenager walking around with a gun much less to pull the trigger. If he is being bullied, there are ways to take care of that problem.
