Saturday Night Live launched it’s new season with the opening monologue mocking Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, with Jay Pharoah playing President Obama. Obama said he’s not worried about the high unemployment and foreign policy being in shambles, he has a secret weapon — Mitt Romney! Ever time Romney was featured, he put his foot in his mouth — insulting a gay service member, calling the lone black person in the audience a Lou Rawls look-alike, bragged about his wife’s horse Rafalca not placing at the Olympics (saying he understands hardship) and Paul Ryan lying about doing push-ups! I have to hand it to Jay Pharoah, he’s pretty convincing as President Obama, down to his diction.
Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds is calling for President Obama to resign after “brownshirted enforcers” officers bringing in anti-Islam “Innocence of Muslims” filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula for questioning, saying his free speech rights have been violated. Reynolds, who is a lawyer, is making hay out of nothing. Nothing like doling out a big plate of scariness. Why? You see, the federal authorities have a right to bring Nakoula in for questioning because he is currently on probation for bank fraud. I wonder, did it ever cross Glenn Reynolds’ mind the authorities might want to find out where he got the money to bankroll the project? Oh, no. It’s just easier and makes for better news to blame Obama and keep the ‘dictator’ thingy going, as well as keeping the belief held by many wingnuts that he’s secretly a Muslim. SMH. If Nakoula is being questioned in the context of violating his probation, how is Obama being a bully?
By sending — literally — brownshirted enforcers to engage in — literally — a midnight knock at the door of a man for the non-crime of embarrassing the President of the United States and his administration, President Obama violated that oath. You can try to pretty this up (It’s just about possible probation violations! Sure.), or make excuses or draw distinctions, but that’s what’s happened. It is a betrayal of his duties as President, and a disgrace. Source: Instapundit
If Nakoula violated the terms of his probation, then he should be sent back to prison. It’s just that simple. This has nothing to do with the mayhem the film sparked. Pajama Media is grovelling for a reason to smear President Obama, just like the typical right wing spin machines — Twitchy, Michelle Malkin, Powerline, Newsbusters Weasel Zippers and Breitbart. Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is obligated under the law to speak with his probation officer and federal authorities. That fact was conveniently ignored by Glenn Reynolds, who should be ashamed of himself for making such an assertion, since he’s an attorney. If I were his client or a student in one of his classes, I would be questioning his judgment to apply the law and not put politics first.
Let me underscore the fact that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula pleaded no contest to bank fraud charges in 2010 and was banned from using computers or the Internet or using false identities as part of his sentence, according to the LA Times. So, what of the alias, Sam Bacile? How did he get the money to pay the crew, actors and actresses for the movie? This just plays into the narrative that the right wing will do anything to put an idiot in the White House at all costs, oblivious to facts and the truth.
Glenn Reynolds’ screed has left me wondering how in the world someone who should be knowledgeable about the law could come up with such a weak argument calling for President Obama’s resignation? Hey, Glenn, why not call for Mitt Romney to drop out of the race, since he has enraged so many conservatives with his vagueness and inability to thrash Obama in the polls? Did Glenn Reynolds call for former president George Bush’s resignation when the Patriot Act was passed to spy on telephone calls? Wasn’t that trampling our First Amendment rights?
Correction: Glenn Reynolds complained about the use of “Nazi-paramilitary types” in my article and for the record, he didn’t use those words, but what he said about Obama is just as despicable. We’ve now fixed this post to more accurately reflect his position. We regret any error.
SHOCK: Ex-con Curtis Clinton has been arrested for the murders of young mother, Heather Jackson, and her two children, ages three and 18 months. The bodies were found in her Ohio home Saturday. All three reportedly died of strangulation.
Curtis Clinton, 41, was released from prison seven months ago after serving 13 years in prison for assault and involuntary manslaughter of Misty Keckler. He was charged with three counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of Heather Jackson and her kids.
The Norwalk Register reports Jackson’s body had been shoved between a mattress and a bed frame, and her children’s hidden inside a closet. She had known Clinton for about five months.
Five people, including three children, died in a small plane crash early Saturday in southwest Missouri. The 2002 Cirrus SR22 plane went down about 12:30 a.m. northwest of Willard, MO, killing Robin Melton, her boyfriend John Lambert and his children Joshua Lambert, 10, McKinley Lambert, 15, and Grayson Lambert, 16. They were all from Springfield. Grayson Lambert played soccer at Lake Country Soccer for six years, the Springfield News-Leader reports.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that Robin Melton owned an environmental consulting firm called Environmental Works Inc., and John Lambert owned Missouri Insulation & Supply Inc.
Um, trouble in the Romney campaign? Republicans are DEMANDING that the Romney campaign change course. Yeah, with less than two months to go before the November 6th election day. Music to the Obama campaign’s ears. One more disaster like his despicable attack on President Obama on the Libyan embassy attack and Mitt Romney should throw in the towel.
The complaints come as polls show that Romney lost ground on President Obama following the party’s respective conventions in Tampa, Fla. and Charlotte, N.C. The GOP members say Romney must do a better job of communicating to voters what to expect of him, either by making a bold pledge akin to George H.W. Bush’s 1988 “no new taxes” promise or fleshing policy proposals with more details.
The Republican said Romney should make a concise, bold promise to reform wasteful spending in Washington.“He should say, ‘I’m a money manager and I will manage your money in Washington. I will eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. Obama wants you to send more money so he can spend more money.’” Source
Let’s see, Mr. One Percent doesn’t want the Obama campaign to attack his tenure (including his retroactive retirement) at Bain Capital nor can they talk about his tax returns. His tenure as governor of Massachusetts was less that spectacular, so exactly why is he qualified to be president? What’s his vision? Wait, that would be Paul Ryan’s vision — to throw momma from the train Medicare cuts and other entitlement reforms plans aimed squarely at the poor and middle class. He palls around with extremists in the Republican Party such as Bryan Fischer, Pat Robertson, Rep. Steve King, Rep. Michelle Bachmann, Joe Arpaio, Donald Trump, and others, who mostly attack Obama with hints of racism in their rhetoric.
Rick Santorum at Values Voter Summit: “Conservatives Will Never Have the Elite, Smart People on Our Side”
Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked the media during his speech at the Values Voter Summit on Saturday, saying, “we will never have the elite, smart people on our side.” In other words, the people in attendance and in the Republican Party are stupid.
Here is his caveman-like reasoning:
“We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country,” Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel. “We will never have the elite, smart people on our side.”
“When it comes to conservatism libertarian types can say, oh, well you know, we don’t want to talk about social issues,” Santorum said. “Without the church and the family, there is no conservative movement, there is no basic values of America.” Source
Here’s what America has to look forward to with a Mitt Romney presidency:
People like Rick Santorum are trying to hijack the Republican Party. Um, I take that back. They have already hijacked the Republican Party. Of course, Rick Santorum blamed President Obama for what happened in the Middle East with the attacks on the embassies in Cairo and Benghazi that left four Americans dead — Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.
Separately, another lunatic at the extremist Values Voter Summit, Kamal Saleem, accuses Hillary Clinton of conspiring to shut down churches and synagogues in America:
A hidden camera video shows Mitt Romney talking at a fundraiser about investing in a Chinese factory that he described as surrounded by barbed wire and packed with 12 women per dormitory room. What Romney was getting at was that”95% of life is settled if you’re born in America.”
Here’s the video:
The Romney campaign announced its Black Leadership Council, which I considered it’s token offering to the black community, but the leaders of group are a joke — Rep. Allen West, Florida Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll (angered black lesbians over alleged lesbian affair with staffer) and Tim Scott. Please they will bring no black votes to the Romney campaign. He needed more credible black leaders such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice. Here’s a list of the people on the council:
Advisory Council Members
Texas State Representative Stefani Carter
Saratoga Springs Mayor & Utah Congressional Candidate Mia Love
Texas Commissioner of Education and former Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams
Kay Coles James, President and Founder of the Gloucester Institute and former director for the United States Office of Personnel Management
Honorable Artur Davis, former Member of Congress
The Honorable Bill Hardiman, former Michigan state senator
Linda Lee Tarver, Ethnic Vice Chair of the Michigan Republican Party
Renee Amoore, Deputy Chairwoman of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania
Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo (OH)
Ryan L. Frazier, former Colorado Congressional candidate
Leondray Gholston, Romney for President Colorado Grassroots Chairman and Former Colorado Republican State Vice-Chairman
Glenn McCall, South Carolina RNC Committeeman
Ada Fisher, North Carolina RNC Committeewoman
Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell (GA)
Pastor Ira Combs
Burgess Owens, former NFL player
Stanley Jackson, former Ohio State University Football Captain & Quarterback
Brenda Mack, President of the Ohio Black Republican Association Source: Romney Campaign
Mitt Romney polled zero votes from the black community and he will continue to poll those numbers until he disassociates himself from right wing extremists who continue to insult and denigrate President Obama with subtle racist digs. That includes people in his own campaign such as John Sununu and himself. Mia Love is the most credible person on that council, but she is virtually unknown in the black community.
In a recent press release, Romney said, “I am proud to have the endorsements of so many leaders in the black community. They know all too well that the economic downturn that has continued to hammer our country has been even more devastating for black Americans. Together, we will work to end that downturn, and we will not rest until all Americans have the jobs they need, the quality education they are owed, and the opportunities they deserve.” Um, really? What exactly does he plan to do for the black community? Neither Mitt Romney nor President Obama have had any campaign stops in predominantly black communities. So, you can’t just give lip service every time an election rolls around.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, Alleged Mastermind Behind Anti-Islam Film, Taken in for Police Questioning
Innocence of Muslims filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula was taken in for questioning by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies just after midnight Friday. It is believed that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is in fact Sam Bacile, the man tied to the movie, which sparked widespread protests in the Middle East, where U.S. embassies were targeted, possibly contributing to the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, who were ambushed at the embassy in Benghazi. Right wing blogs are going nuts. One in particular, Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds accused President Obama of sending in “brownshirted enforcers,” AKA Nazi paramilitary-types, to question a man who’s on probation for bank fraud. Power Line is puking right wing venom. It’s a little comical.
Seems like Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is a little punk because he hid his face with a towel and hat as he was escorted by police into a waiting car. LA County Sheriff’s department spokesman Steve Whitmore told NBC4 that deputies assisting the federal probation department took Nakoula to the sheriff’s substation in Cerritos for interviewing. LA Now reports that as of 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Nakoula has not been arrested or detained.
Philadelphia Inquirer poll finds President Obama leading Mitt Romney by 11 points among likely voters, 50% to 39% in Pennsylvania.
“The president’s current standing is largely built on his overwhelming backing in the Philadelphia television market, home to more than 40 percent of the state’s voters. That offsets support for Romney in the more conservative Pittsburgh market and some other areas.”
