Mitt Romney realizes that he needs to save face with the black community and has now thrown a Hail Mary pass, with his campaign’s announcement of its Black Leadership Council, chaired by Reps. Tim Scott and House negro Rep. Allen West. The goal of the council is to ”help facilitate dialogue between Mitt Romney and respected leaders who provide unique expertise, experience and knowledge on a range of issues impacting black American communities,” according to the campaign.
Um, one word to Mitt Romney and his folks, if you want to appeal to the black community, you don’t do it through a wingnut like Rep. Allen West, who has represented the black community poorly in Washington D.C. Where’s J.C. Watts and even Ron Christie? Damn, Herman Cain and Michael Steele weren’t on the radar? Wow. Isn’t the Romney campaign’s decision to reach out to the black community a little too late, with the election weeks away? The Republican Party has a diversity problem and they need to tackle that sincerely.
