Do we really need a list of the most ‘overrated white people’ in America from Marc Lamont Hill? I thought he was bigger than this racially motivated cheap shot. Right off the bat, Marc Lamont Hill would be on my list of one of the most overrated black men in America. Here’s a partial list:

Elvis Presley - Elvis didn’t write his own songs (despite taking credit for them), barely played the guitar, and was a worse actor than the entire cast of Belly. Despite being a cheap facsimile of Little Richard, he is still known as the “King of Rock ‘n Roll.” Only in America…

Ronald Reagan - You can’t have a conversation with a Republican without hearing Reagan’s name invoked as the patron saint of American politics. As a result, Ronald Reagan moves closer and closer to the Mount Rushmore of our public imagination with each passing year. How easily we forget that Reagan was largely responsible for shutting down mental hospitals, bloating the military, shrinking benefits for the needy, sparking mass incarceration, and declaring ketchup a vegetable for our children’s school lunches.

Justin Bieber - Sure, the kid can sing and dance. But is he better than dozens of black R&B singers? Nope.

Donald Trump - The Donald was always obnoxious, but he dipped to new lows this year by jumping on the Birther train. But that alone doesn’t make him overrated. Just racist and dumb. No, Trump is overrated because people actually look to the self-important hack for legitimate political insight. The only thing more inflated than Trump’s intellectual value is his net-worth, which is nothing close to the “many billions” he alleges.

Joel Osteen - The only preacher in America who can give an entire sermon without referencing a bible. Somehow, Osteen has convinced the world that he is a legitimate theologian rather than a schmaltzy self-help salesmen in pastor’s clothing.

The Whole NHL (except Wayne Simmonds) - Has anyone noticed that the whole season is about to be canceled? Nope, didn’t think so.

Bill Clinton - Despite bombing Africa and the Middle East regularly, approving the Welfare Reform Bill, Prison Litigation Reform Act, and “three strikes” legislation, Black folk regularly regard Clinton as a messianic figure. He may have been better than Bush, but Slick Willie was far from a savior. Source

I guess the one question I have to ask Dr. Marc Lamont Hill is if he would tolerate a list of the “15 most overrated blacks?” This is just shameful racebaiting. This man, is the Associate Professor of English Education at Columbia University. Makes one wonder what kind of people are imparting knowledge to our kids on college campuses. There are overrated people of every racial background, but stereotyping and finger pointing is plain wrong. Yeah, I have problems with Christopher Columbus and his so-called discoveries of the New World, but please, this list is a bit much.

    This is a stupid post telling users what to think.

    Why is a post like this a priority on a website that claims to be about “political analysis” and from a Black perspective??

    This is a propaganda site which nothing thoughtful to write about, so you fill it with unimportant fodder like this post.

    How about some news analysis on the 13th amendment??

    The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially outlaws slavery , EXCEPT AS PUNISHMENT FOR A CRIME.

    “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted…” 13TH AMENDMENT, US CONSTITUTION

    Blacks make up a smaller segment of the US population, yet they make up a disproportionate number of the prison population. This is impossible by any math, logic, or science, unless they are being specifically targeted.

    Why are you writing garbage about the latest crime and feigning “outrage” over something that is completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things??

    Blogs like yours are tools meant to distract Black people from issues that really matter to us.

    Shame on you! The black press today is a complete disgrace.

    You’re missing the point of Hill’s article, which is that racist, white majorities historically and even today give preference to white people over minorities. I agree that most of the people on his list are overrated for that very reason. BTW, I’m white.

    Janet Shan has Totally missed the point of what Mr Hill wrote in his article about Columbus.. Im a white Canadian.. I would call race baiting when you only cite parts of the article… Thus taking it out of context to further your own agenda.. Unbelievable.. And shameful

    Strangely enough, there was no outcry from blacks or liberals during the 2012 election when it became known that Obama’s reelection headquarters in Chicago employed about 98 percent whites, to only 1 to 2 percent blacks. No numbers that I’ve seen on how many of Obama’s reelection employees were also women, gays, Asians, Latinos, or Native Americans, but it appears from a recent photo that the majority were white males. Preference for hiring whites (more specifically, white MEN) by Mr. “Yes We Can!” has not been mentioned on CNN, by Chris Matthews, by Rachel Maddow, on The View.

    So in a Hopenchange Obama World, his campaign’s non-diverse hiring practices would have been assaulted and denounced by the ACLU, the NYT, all the socialists at MSNBC, and other leftist media sources, except for the obvious: only Republicans are attacked by liberal news media. Obama can do whatever he bloody well wants, can drone on and on lecturing every one else to death, break any rules he wants, not make any effort to maintain hiring quotas of minorities, and few of his adoring sheeple will balk. Even when it comes to him paying his female employees in the White House less than their male counterparts (likewise with other members of Congress and their staff), liberals turn a blind eye from criticizing the self-absorbed President Zero.

    Waiting for the “15 Most Hypocritical Blacks in the Public Eye” by Marc and he can put himself and Obama both on it. And since Obama is half white, he can also be ranked on the follow-up companion piece. One reader at HuffPo wrote this in the comments of Hill’s original post: “Would Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize before doing anything be half hype? It might be half way down his list or does he, Marc, believe the glass is half full?”
