Carnival Barker, Donald Trump, picked the wrong executive to insult today. The Detroit Free Press reports Donald Trump tweeted today that President Obama “is a terrible negotiator. He bails out Chrysler and now Chrysler wants to send all Jeep manufacturing to China–and will!” Um, the comment drew a heated tweet from Chrysler Group Vice President for Product Design Ralph Gilles: “You are full of shit!” We already knew Donald Trump is full of shit. It should be noted that Ralph Gilles later apologized for his strong language. Donald Trump deserved that slap and even more.

BREAKING NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorses President Obama:  New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorses President Obama for reelection citing climate change and saying, ‎”If he listens to people on both sides of the aisle, and builds the trust of moderates, he can fulfill the hope he inspired four years ago and lead our country toward a better future for my children and yours. And that’s why I will be voting for him.”

Michael Bloomberg is what a successful businessman looks like, not Mitt Romney.

WA GOP Congressional Candidate John Koster Under Fire for “About the Rape Thing” Comment

Washington congressional candidate John Koster (R) for saying:  ”Incest is so rare, I mean it’s so rare. But the rape thing, you know, I know a woman who was raped and kept the child, gave it up for adoption and doesn’t regret it. In fact, she’s a big pro-life proponent. But, on the rape thing it’s like, how does putting more violence onto a woman’s body and taking the life of an innocent child that’s a consequence of this crime, how does that make it better?”

Obama Campaign Hits Mitt Romney for “Kamikaze Strategy” With Blatant Lies, Sleazy Attacks

The Obama campaign is up with a new ad hitting Mitt Romney for what Greg Sargent calls is his “Kamikaze strategy” — “a pretty massive and audacious gamble” by “cranking out a startling number of falsehoods and sleazy attacks” in an attempt to win the election:

Mitt Romney sinks to a new low, comparing President Obama to dictators Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Um, DESPERATION is what this is all about. The Spanish-language ad aired in Florida, with Raul Castro’s daughter saying both men would vote for Obama if they were American citizens. Here’s the Miami Herald’s translation of Romney’s ad:

NARRATOR: Who supports Barack Obama?

CHAVEZ: If I were American, I’d vote for Obama.

NARRATOR: Raúl Castro’s daughter, Mariela Castro, would vote for Obama.

CASTRO: I would vote for President Obama.

NARRATOR: And to top it off, Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency sent emails for Hispanic Heritage month with a photo of Che Guevara.

CHAVEZ: If Obama were from Barlovento (a Venezuelan town), he’d vote for Chávez.

ROMNEY: I’m Mitt Romney, and I approve this message.

Rosa Hombredela, a Cuban-American, told the Miami Herald that the ad disgusted her because it reminded her of “the same infectious style of politics that put Castro in power has germinated in Miami making it a banana republic. I was born in Cuba, raised in the United States, I’m a woman, a Republican and I voted yesterday for President Barack Obama. Proud to say so.” Source:  Think Progress

This plays into the narrative that President Obama is a “foreigner” and a “communist.” Missing from this misleading ad is the fact that Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro have said some pretty mean things about President Obama too.  Mitt Romney is despicable and if I were an undecided voter, he would send me right into the arms of Barack Obama.

The Obama campaign issued the following statement:  “Mitt Romney continues to play Hugo Chavez’s game, giving Chavez the attention he thrives on and that he doesn’t deserve. Keeping America safe and advancing U.S. interests require the kind of leadership President Obama has provided, not Romney’s bluster,” said Dan Restrepo, a national security adviser to the Obama campaign.

Romney Campaign and Karl Rove Hyping Mitt Romney’s Non-Existent Surge in Polls and Unrealistic Talk of Landslide Win

We are starting to hear all manner of things from the Romney campaign and other Republicans such as Karl Rove saying he is on track to win the presidential election and that Obama’s swing state firewall is crumbling. Um, don’t believe the hype. It’s meant to discourage you from going out to vote.

Nate Silver says Mitt Romney now “has few chances to win unless the state polls are systematically wrong.”

“I don’t mean for this to sound dismissive; the polling error could quite easily be correlated across the different states, and the national polls are one reason to be suspicious of the state polls.”

“But we’re at the point now where Mr. Obama may be a modest favorite even if the national polls are right. Two weeks ago, when Mr. Obama appeared to trail Mr. Romney by a point or so in the national polls, that would not have been the case.”

The empty rhetoric will continue right up to Election Day on November 6. Here are the latest swing state polls (h/t Politicalwire):

Youngstown Vindicator Editorial: Romney’s GM and Chrysler ads are an insult to Ohioans:

Mitt Romney’s widely debunked claim that GM and Chrysler are moving auto manufacturing jobs to China after being bailed out by President Obama isn’t just dirty politics. The claim suggests that the Republican nominee for president believes the voters of Ohio are not sophisticated enough to separate fact from fiction. The fact about Chrysler and Jeep is clearly laid out in a statement from the company’s chief executive officer, Sergio Marchionne: “I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China. “North American production is critical to achieving our goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014. In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled (it is expected to be up 185%) since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand.” The fact about GM is contained in a searing critique of the advertising campaign. “The ad is cynical campaign politics at its worst,” Greg Martin, GM spokesman, told the New York Times. “We think creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back in this country should be a source of bipartisan pride.”

Axiom Amnesia’s Heit & Cheri “Improper Conduct” Album in the Tradition of Bob Marley, Empowering People to Stand Up

Axiom Amnesia is an interesting concept, combining a news and views website about social issues, breaking news and commentary, with a socially conscious and economically uplifting music project. I had the pleasure of recently speaking with Heit & Cheri, who run Axiom Amnesia about their new project — an album entitled Improper Conduct.” As someone who was born in Jamaica and grew up listening to the socially conscious music of Bob Marley, every song  on their album was in the same tradition of the reggae pioneer. Heit & Cheri’s first music project is a lush collection of thought-provoking songs about social issues and will be appreciated by every listener. Heit said he felt the comparison to Bob Marley, who is someone he respected and grew up with, is profound and heartfelt. He also said true “change comes from changing the way you think. The revolution won’t be televised because the first place it starts is in the mind.”  Cheri said, in terms of the Bob Marley comparison, he was a pioneer in terms of “thinking for yourselves and not just taking cues from the media.” It’s a compliment that found sobering.

Heit and Cheri, like many, want to see a change in the social and political systems of the world. The harshness and divisiveness of the 2012 presidential election is precisely what they want to see changed, but starting on an individual basis. The dynamic duo believes “Improper Conduct” is a vehicle through which significant change can be effected because “being ‘proper’ implies adherence to the status quo, which leaves things unchanged,” their press release said. The album is a stark departure from what we hear on the radio today because it gives listeners a view of the world through their eyes and hearts. Heit & Cheri want to challenge listeners to step outside their comfort zone, away from the “collective thought of the masses and assert themselves as thinking individuals.”

“Get Out and Vote” laments the plight of the middle class and that the economic issues we face can’t be fixed by voting. We can’t simply trust the systems to “make amends” and fix the problems. The uncertainty in the presidential polls show that people aren’t thrilled with neither President Obama nor his Republican rival Mitt Romney. Heit said “we live in a multiple choice nation and are just given President Obama and Mitt Romney, but there are also third party candidates” who we haven’t heard much about. He stated that social movement doesn’t start with just your votes. To that Cheri urges voters to look at the two men and their record to see what they have actually done. She added that the black community talks about the symbolic vote, “since we haven’t always had the right to vote. The message was just get out to vote. No-one should feel obligated to participate in a process they don’t believe in.”

Heit & Cheri sang vocals on all the tracks. The album is an upbeat tribute to self-empowerment and improving our lot. Cheri’s voice rings loud and clear like a bell. Heit’s rapping is strong and crisp. They have essentially put many of the mainstream singers and rappers to shame with a conscious vibe and upbeat rhythm. I was totally mesmerized listening to every track on the album and found myself rocking to the strong and crisp beat of every song.  From “Underground Railroad” to “Screwed” and “World of Music” and the other tracks on the album, I was left with sense that Heit and Cheri are onto something — the start of a social movement for change starting on an individual basis, including bringing us the facts on the murder of Trayvon Martin.  In closing, “Improper Conduct” is a wonderful first album by this team and I am excited at what lies ahead for Heit & Cheri.
