President Obama’s reelection has led to a surge in interest in purchasing real estate in the Caribbean, specifically in the Cayman Islands and Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras.

Based on figures from the CBO and the Joint Committee on Taxation, federal taxes will increase by a total of $423 billion in 2013 if the Bush-era tax cuts are allowed to expire. According to the Associated Press, the increase in taxes will be the largest since 1942.

In light of this, for those looking to secure their funds offshore and control their own spending, the newest development on Roatan, Crystal Sands Villas, may be the answer.

Amy Murphy, a realtor with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty in Scottsdale, Arizona, has experienced an influx of buyers seeking to purchase homes in the Caribbean – with a 70% surge in inquiries since the election.

As the owner of her own Caribbean property on the island of Roatan off the coast of Honduras, Amy has first-hand experience of this offshore buying trend.

Since the late 1990s, the value of her property has rocketed from $38,000 to $250,000, a growth trend which is tempting more buyers to invest before taxes rise.

President Obama’s Inaugural Ceremonies Theme Announced: “Faith in America’s Future”

The theme of President Obama’s inaugural ceremonies will be “Faith in America’s Future,” said Sen. Charles Schumer, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, in a release Thursday:

“Our nation has faced countless challenges throughout its history, and each time we have come together as Americans and moved forward with renewed strength. During the 57th Presidential Inauguration, Americans from across the country will gather beneath the Capitol Dome to celebrate our history, take measure of how far we have come, and look towards our future with hope and determination.”

S. Con. Res. 35 established the date of the 2013 Inauguration as Monday, January 21, 2013, since January 20, 2013 falls on a Sunday.  This is the seventh time in U.S. history that the constitutionally mandated Inauguration date has fallen on a Sunday. The last time was President Ronald Reagan’s second Inauguration in 1985. When this occurs, the public ceremonies traditionally are held on Monday.

In addition, January 21, 2013 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It will be the second time that this federal holiday has coincided with a Presidential Inauguration. The first was President William J. Clinton’s second Inauguration in 1997.

Ebony Magazine Loses More Credibility by Putting RHOA Star Loud-Mouth NeNe Leakes on Latest Cover

When I think about who should grace the cover of Ebony Magazine, NeNe Leakes  certainly doesn’t come to mind. After all, since when is acting ghetto a shoo-in for a cover shoot? This continues the dumbing-down of America trend.  Ebony Magazine, through the years has stood for celebrated black power, black beauty, and black pride. Not acting like a hoodrat. I echo the sentiments of Ebony readers, who are appalled that she would ever grace the cover of any issue of this iconic publication. Um, when I think “Money and Power,” again, NeNe Leakes may have money but has absolutely no power.

NeNe Leakes defended the magazine’s decision to put her on the cover when she appeared at the recent star-studded gala unveiling Ebony’s Dec/Jan 2013 issue at New York’s Lincoln Center, telling the Daily Beast:

“I absolutely deserve to be on the cover. This cover is about money, power, and respect. And it’s about a come-up story and I’m the one that had that story this year … Not only did I come out as a reality star that was very boisterous and vivacious and outspoken and all those things. I flipped that into money and respect. And a lot of people can’t do that.”

R-E-S-P-E-C-T? From whom? Yeah, she may deserve to be on a magazine cover, but not Ebony. The reality is that Ebony Magazine has fallen a few notches over the years, and took a giant tumble with it sunk to “RHOA” ratchetness.  I seriously doubt John H. Johnson, who founded the magazine in 1945, would besmirch his company’s goals by putting someone like NeNe Leakes on the cover. He stood for more than running up his circulation numbers. He stood for black achievement and black pride.

Many brought to tears at Jordan Russell Davis’ viewing in Jacksonville. He was killed senselessly by a trigger-happy man,  Michael David Dunn, whose judgment was quite possibly clouded by alcohol. His lawyer Robin Lemonidis claims a shotgun was pointed at him, but the cops didn’t find any weapons in the SUV Davis was riding in.  The defense team will try to impugn the reputation of this young man, as George Zimmerman has done through his defense lawyers and friends, to sully the name of Trayvon Martin, who he senselessly murdered.

Davis’ accused shooter, 45-year-old Michael David Dunn, waived his first court appearance in Jacksonville Wednesday morning after being extradited Tuesday from Brevard County. The Melbourne man was charged with second-degree murder.

Dunn’s attorney, Robin Lemonidis, also of Melbourne, stated her client “absolutely” saw someone with a shotgun in the red sport-utility vehicle next to his car at the convenience store that night.

Lemonidis has said Dunn fired in self-defense and it will be shown that he “acted appropriately.” She would only say that “we’ll see” if Florida’s Stand Your Ground law would be part of her defense.

Dunn’s next court appearance will be Dec. 19. He is being held in the Duval County jail without bail. Source

Michael David Dunn’s attorney may try to invoke the “Stand Your Ground” law to try to seek for a dismissal of the case or a not-guilty verdict when the case is litigated, but there are witnesses to Mr. Dunn’s claim that he saw a gun, which led him to fire his gun, even at a moving vehicle, after he approached the teens asking them to turn down their loud music. I am amazed that little is being made of the reckless behavior displayed by Michael David Dunn — firing into a vehicle with other occupants, with no regard for one or more of the occupants being shot.

Red State founder Erick Erickson is one conservative I can tolerate. He has a new column out that slams the Republican Party, saying the “ root of all evil, for the Republican Party evil is located on the fifth floor of 66 Canal Center Plaza, Alexandria, VA 22314.”

This is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house. The fifth floor of 66 Canal Center Plaza reveals a tangled web of incestuous relationships among Republican consultants who have made millions all while the GOP went down the tubes. Here the top party consultants waged war with conservative activists and here they waged war with the Democrats. On both fronts, they raked in millions along the way with a more fractured, minority party in their wake. And they show no signs of recognizing just how much a part of the problem they are.

According to a Lexis business search, the fifth floor of 66 Canal Center Plaza houses the following groups:

We have written pretty extensively about the money that flowed in the presidential campaign in favor of Mitt Romney from some of the same organizations Erickson mentions, Restore Our Future, Crossroads Media and Americans for Job Security, in particular. They stopped at nothing to muddy up the waters on both sides. Karl Rove’s grimy fingers are all over this as well. It is a sad commentary that all these Republican consultants made millions pushing a vile and disturbing “Republican Party brand” that insulted women, blacks, gays and lesbians, and Latinos.
