Lourdes Guzman, 13, was shot and killed on a private school bus in the Miami-Dade area by another student, Jordyn Alexander Howe, Tuesday morning. Howe, who lives in Homestead, will be charged with manslaughter and is also facing a charge of carrying a concealed firearm, Miami-Dade Police said. The police believe the shooting was accidental.
Lourdes Guzman was airlifted to Miami Children’s Hospital after 6:45 a.m. and was later pronounced dead. The bus, which is owned by Yelimar and Portieles, serviced three schools in the area: Somerset Academy Silver Palms, Palm Glades Preparatory Academy and Summerville school. The victim’s sibling was also on the bus, but was unharmed. Lourdes Guzman was a student at Palm Glades Preparatory Academy. Jordyn Alexander Howe is facing a tough road ahead of him as this case makes it through the court system. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Lourdes Guzman.
