FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER: Marion County KY deputy sheriff Anthony Raikes was fatally shot while making a traffic stop on U.S. 58 near Lebanon early Wednesday morning. The suspect, Dwayne Shipp of McDaniel, KY, opened fire with a small caliber handgun as Deputy Sheriff Raikes approached the vehicle. Anthony Raikes was able to return fire, though he was wounded.
The subject fled on foot, but was later apprehended by law enforcement agents from the Kentucky State Police and Campbellsville Police Department.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Anthony Raikes, who served with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for six years, and previously with the Lebanon Police Department. Dwayne Shipp was taken to the Taylor County Hospital for leg injury.
