David Sirota: Debate on How to Address Newtown School Shooting Would be Uglier if Shooter from Different Demographic
NEWTOWN SCHOOL SHOOTING: David Sirota, a columnist with Salon.com, said if Adam Lanza belonged to a different demographic, the debate on how to address the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting would be “much uglier.” In other words, if the shooter was black or Hispanic, the discourse would be different. Consider the Drudge Report and how it race-baits about black-on-white crime?
During “Up with Chris Hayes” on Sunday, Hayes said the thought that policy makers in Washington will be moved to do something about this tragedy and that he could envision lawmakers calling for a more invasive surveillance regime. David Sirota, a guest on the show, responded that the political impediment to that was the fact that most mass shooting suspects are white.
Sirota said, “The issue with it will be, politically, I think; the profile is white men. That’s a profile that’s not, essentially, in America allowed to be profiled. That’s the one profile in America that’s not allowed to be profiled.”

Von I. Meyer, a Cedar Lake, Ind., resident, who was equipped with an arsenal of 47 guns, was arrested on Friday after he threatened to kill children at a local elementary school. Von I. Meyer had also threatened his wife:
Cedar Lake police were called to the home of 60-year-old Von I. Meyer early Friday after he allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire. A police statement says Meyer also said he would enter Jane Ball Elementary School and “kill as many people as he could.” Authorities found 47 guns and ammunition worth over $100,000.
This incident comes on the heels of Adam Lanza’s shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Friday, that left 26 dead, including 20 children and six teachers. This also comes on the heels of the arrest of an Oklahoma man, Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, planning a school shooting. This also comes as a man fired 50 shots outside a mall in Newport Beach, Calif. The suspect is in custody.
Newtown School Shooting: All 31 Pro-Gun Rights Senators in New US Congress Decline to Appear on “Meet the Press”
NEWTOWN SCHOOL SHOOTING: No-one should be surprised, but should be disgusted, at the fact that all 31 pro-gun rights senatorS in the U.S. senate declined to appear on “Meet the Press” on Sunday in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre by Adam Lanza that left 26 dead, including 20 children. Here’s the tweet from Betsy Fischer Martin:
BTW, we reached out to ALL 31 pro-gun rights Sens in the new Congress to invite them to share their views on @meetthepress – NO takers.

It is time to hold ALL lawmakers, including President Obama accountable. We can no longer afford to turn our backs on gun control. There is no need for a civilian to own an assault rifle, unless they are in law enforcement. You don’t need an assault rifle to go hunting. The time has come for more oversight. It’s interesting to note that the National Rifle Association canceled a country music event this weekend but has yet to issue any statement on the school massacre. If someone is trying to purchase 6,000 rounds of ammunition online, then a red flag should be raised. This occurred in the Aurora movie theater shooting massacre, when gunman James Eagan Holmes, was able to amass an arsenal of weapons to unleash unspeakable horror during the movie premiere of the latest Batman movie.
The National Rifle Association accounts for about 60 percent of what gun rights interest groups spent on lobbying in 2011 and the first three quarters of 2012. The other gun rights advocates include the Gun Owners of America; the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms; The National Shooting Sports Foundation; Safari Club International; Boone & Crockett Club, a group that aims to preserve a “hunting heritage”; and The Ohio Gun Collectors Association.

Hate Group Westboro Baptist Church to Celebrate “God Executing Judgement” In Horrific Sandy Hook Massacre
Right wing hate rears its ugly head again via hate group Westboro Baptist Church, which plans to celebrate “God executing His judgment” in the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary shooting massacre. The group plans to picket outside the school and funerals of six and seven year old kids. What a disgrace.
Here are some tweets from member Shirley Phelps-Roper:

Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.

A counter protest is the only way to fight their disgusting protest and mission. Can we let the parents and families grieve in peace for their children and the adults who were senselessly murdered by an animal named Adam Lanza? This is simply beyond words.
Salon: Hacker collective Anonymous were swift to respond, releasing private information of Westboro members including email addresses, phone numbers and home addresses. This video, decrying the church for spreading “seeds of hatred.” The video warns, “We will destroy you. We are coming.” Click to watch video:
Mother Jones has an interesting article about more guns, more mass shootings out that speaks volumes to the siege this country has found itself under. Westboro Baptist Church is helping to foment the hatred simmering in some would-be gunmen. We need gun control, not fomenting hatred.
