President Obama talked about gun control in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre that claimed the lives of 20 children and six teachers in Newtown, CT, last Friday. He set a January deadline for gun control proposal. He appointed Vice President Joe Biden to led the commission charged with coming up with a set of proposals. He urged Congress to vote early 2013 to ban assault weapons, high capacity magazines & gun show background check loophole. Um, I dare the Republicans to play politics with the lives of innocent people.

President Obama’s comments comes as adulterer Newt Gingrich blames the Newtown school shooting on an “anti-religious” secular government. Um, another self-righteous windbag. He told host Brian Thomas of 55KRC:

When you have an anti-religious, secular bureaucracy and secular judiciary seeking to drive God out of public life, something fills the vacuum. And that something, you know, I don’t know that going from communion to playing war games in which you practice killing people is necessarily an improvement.

STAND YOUR GROUND: Another nut in Florida is trying to invoke the Stand Your Ground law after he shot another man in St. Petersburg. Randall White got upset at the long wait time for his order at a Little Caesars store at 3463 Fourth Street N, and another man in the l ine, Michael Jock, admonished him for his verbal outburst.

The police said a shoving match ensued and when Randall White raised his fist, Michael Jock pulled out a .38 Taurus Ultralight Special Revolver and fired one round, hitting him in the lower torso. The gun discharged again as the two men tussled, again hitting White in the same area, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

When the police arrived at the scene, Jock told officers the shooting was justified under “stand your ground,” police spokesman Mike Puetz told the newspaper. Police did not believe that such force was necessary and arrested Michael Jock on a charge of aggravated batter with a weapon and shooting within a building. He was released on $20,000 bail.

2012 Person of the Year:  For the second time since 2008, Time Magazine named President Obama its “Person of the Year” for 2012. The article is a frank and thought-provoking tale of why he won this award for a second time. The fact is simple, “people trust him.” I see him as someone who has my back, not someone who has the rich guy’s back. How he pulled off a resounding reelection win at the polls on November 6th is nothing short of amazing. He showed us exactly how to use technology, a stellar grassroots effort and surrounding oneself with the right people can accomplish. All learned and molded from his years as a community organizer, though Republicans like Sarah Palin consider that start in public life a joke.

Time Magazine:  Since the moment Obama arrived on the national scene in 2004, the very idea of leadership has been under assault. Many of the old institutions that once anchored the American Dream have been bled of public confidence. Banks, Big Business, the news media and Congress all polled at or near record lows during his first term. Obama himself was the target of uncommon vitriol, but he has somehow managed to keep the public’s faith.

To understand how he kept his job, the best place to start is where he did. In early 2011, David Simas, a former registrar of deeds in Taunton, Mass., who had become a senior White House aide, switched on what might be called one of the largest listening posts in U.S. history. For months on end, two or three nights a week, Simas and his team secretly gathered voters in rented rooms across the swing states, eight at a time, the men separated from the women. The Obamans poked at their guinea pigs’ animal spirits, asked for confessions and played word-association games. (Among swing voters, Democrat often elicited Barack Obama, and Republican would yield words like old and backward.) Live feeds of the focus groups were shown on computer screens at campaign headquarters in Chicago. The first discovery Simas made held the keys to the kingdom. “Here is the best thing,” he said of Obama when he went back to home base. “People trust him.”

Congratulations to President Obama on this award. Call him whatever you will, he will go down in history for having accomplished amazing feats that other presidents dreamed of.   President Obama proves that servant-leadership is all about — serving the faceless, the nameless and the powerless.

Does the Dallas Police Department have a problem with black males? It would seem that walking while black in Dallas has been a real issue for many young men, who aren’t guilty of committing any crimes. A close friend had an encounter with two white Dallas police officers while he was walking in his apartment complex Tuesday night. He was accosted and asked for his identification, though, he wasn’t under suspicion for committing any crimes. This black male is a mover and shaker in the black community, who hosts his own radio show, has a new album and is raising awareness on a number of fronts, but yet, he’s just another black face in the crowd, subjected to police harassment, while an animal like Adam Lanza would automatically get a pass because he’s white.

The cops demanded to be taken to the apartment though his address was on his ID. They threatened him with a ticket for disorderly conduct for “having an attitude.” What’s worst, they lied and told him there was a curfew in place, but it was 6:30 p.m. When he asked about the curfew, they couldn’t get a response but still demanded to go to his apartment.

At that point, I had not actually told the crooked officers that I lived in the apartment complex, because it did not matter. They had no reason to suspect me of trespassing, or any violation of the law, because I was merely walking. So, they asked for my identification, and I gave it to them. Power tripper 1 said he would check to see if I lived in the apartment complex.

While the first cop went to the car to try to find a reason to arrest me, the other racial profiler tried to give me justification for stopping me, after I asked. He told me there was a curfew. WTF! He actually stated that the curfew was “being outside after dark” after I asked him what time this non-existent curfew was. After he told me that he stopped everyone who they saw in the apartment complex at night, I pointed to a white guy who was walking in the same apartment complex. That’s when I was told “He’s in his car.”

That officer walked away for a few seconds. That is when I thought about recording video to document the exchange. Due to technical issues, my phone only took snapshots of the ground, so I decided to at least get audio of what was going on. Obviously, they did not check to see I lived there (so, they lied), because they attempted to coerce me into taking them to my apartment, in another attempt of violating my rights to privacy and free movement. After pressing them for a reason why, they chose to punish me for my attitude. “The attitude,” as they perceived, was my unwillingness to cooperate with them in intruding into my privacy and questioning their justification for impeding my freedom of movement and being in view after dark while being an African American. Isn’t this the same thing that led to Trayvon Martin’s murder in Sanford, Fla.,  by an overzealous neighborhood watch captain? Isn’t this the same drum major instinct attitude that led to the death of Jordan Russell Davis by David Dunn over loud music? Sadly, we aren’t moving forward on race relations in this country, particularly where law enforcement is concerned. We are moving backwards. There is a distrust of law enforcement by young black men because they have been racially profiled repeatedly. Add the arrogance of many law enforcement officers to the mix and you have a recipe for disaster.
