Washington Metropolitan Police Department have launched a probe of “Meet the Press” host David Gregory and the 30-round magazine he held up during last Sunday’s broadcast, with NRA’s executive vice president Wayne LaPierre as his guest.

Politico:  Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, a spokesman confirmed to POLITICO. “The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this matter,” said police officer and spokesman Araz Alali in an interview Tuesday.

“There are D.C. code violations, D.C. code restrictions on guns, ammunition. We are investigating this matter. Beyond the scope of that, I can’t comment any further,” he said.

The right wing is whigging out about the incident, quite unperturbed by the gist of his argument, whether or not a smaller clip would have meant less lives lost in the Newtown school shooting or any other mass shooting. Maybe David Gregory was in violation of the law, but I scarcely believe he was in possession of the rifle that the magazine needed to be attached to. Has anyone stopped to think that there is a real possibility that the magazine in question was an empty one or one that was not fully loaded? It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks.

UPDATE#1 (12/26/2012): The  Washington Post reports “NBC News asked D.C. police for permission to use a high-capacity ammunition clip as a prop on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” show, a request District authorities said Wednesday they denied.”

“But host David Gregory appears to have used one anyway — and then displayed it on national television. Now D.C. police say they’re investigating whether the District’s gun laws were violated in the incident.”

Rupert Murdoch Weighs in on William Spengler Ambush-Style Shooting of Four Webster NY Firefighters

News Corp.’s head-honcho Rupert Murdoch weighed in on ex-con William Spengler “ambush-style” shooting of four firefighters, two dead, in Webster, New York, saying we must “wake up.” He has been repeatedly calling for stricter gun control in the aftermath of the Aurora movie theater shooting, the Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin, and the Newtown school shooting. William Spengler used a Bushmaster assault rifle, the same type of weapon used by Adam Lanza, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT. He also had a Mossman 12-gauge shotgun and a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver in his possession.

AK-47 inventor Mikhail Kalashnikov is in intensive care following health scare. According to RT.com:

93-year-old Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the world’s most popular automatic rifle, has been admitted to a cardiology hospital in Izhevsk, in the Urals. The engineer’s health is said to have worsened during a routine check up on December 20, with Kalashnikov residing in intensive care ever since. His son insists the inventor is just undergoing routine procedures.

WEBSTER SHOOTING:  Ex-con William Spengler, who shot four firefighters, killing Tomasz Kaczowka and Lt. Mike Chiapperini, wounding two others — Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino, used a Bushmaster assault weapon to carry out his double murder-suicide. Police said he left a chilling typewritten note saying he wanted to “do what I like doing best, killing people.” As firefighters arrived on at his home, which he set afire Christmas Eve morning, he opened fire on the firefighters with the Bushmaster, the same semi-automatic, military-style weapon used by Adam Lanza during the December 14 shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., killing 20 children and six adults.

According to the suicide note, William Spengler wanted to see ”how much of the neighborhood I can burn down.” He set his car and house on fire, which also spread to several more houses. The note did not give a motive for his actions. His sister, Cheryl Spengler, who lived in the home, is unaccounted for and could be dead. Spengler was also armed with a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver, a Mossman 12-gauge shotgun and the Bushmaster rifle. William Spengler was a convicted felon and could not legally own a firearm, but it seems that didn’t deter him. Police are investigating how he obtained those weapons.

The latest news about this tragedy comes as AK-47 inventor Mikhail Kalashnikov in intensive care following health scare. According to RT.com:

MINI-SKIRT BAN IN SWAZILAND:  Women wearing mini-skirts or tops exposing their midriff risk arrest in Swaziland, police spokeswoman Wendy Hleta said. BBC reports, Hleta said police would enforce an 1889 law which bans “immoral” dressing if they receive a complaint. Why? They claim women make it easier for rapists by wearing mini-skirts. The law doesn’t apply to traditional costumes worn by women during ceremonies like the annual reed dance, BBC reports.

REPORT: A ‘Dad’ is the Tenth Most Popular Christmas List Request for Children

Merry Christmas to all our readers and supporters. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and approach 2013 with a sense of renewal and strive to be a servant-leader to the least among us. I came across an interesting article in the U.K. Telegraph’s website that a ‘dad’ is the tenth most popular request from children.

Telegraph:  When it comes to Christmas, it might be safe to assume children will ask Santa for an extensive list of toys, games and treats.

But a survey of their typical lists for Father Christmas has shown many have more serious concerns, requesting “a dad” instead.

A study of 2,000 British parents found most children will put a new baby brother or sister at the top of their Christmas list, closely followed by a request for a real-life reindeer.

A “pet horse” was the third most popular choice, with a “car” making a bizarre entry at number four. Despite their material requests, the tenth most popular Christmas wish on the list was a “Dad”.
