BREAKING NEWS: Reports of Shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT

BREAKING NEWS:  Reports of shooting at a Newtown Connecticut elementary school. Police have reportedly entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and evacuation is underway. A representative for a hospital in Danbury, said they have received three patients from Sandy Hook. The shooter is DEAD.

NBC Connecticut:  At 9:41 a.m., Newtown police called state police asking for assistance at Sandy Hook Elementary School, at 12 Dickinson Drive, a kindergarten through fourth grade.

Shots were hearing during morning announcements, according to witnesses at the scene. One student reported hearing several shots, then students were moved to the corners of their classrooms.

A dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps told the Associated Press that a teacher was shot in the foot and taken to Danbury Hospital.

Lt. Paul Vance. of the state police, said a “platoon” of troopers arrived, entered the school and are going inch by inch through the school, evacuating students and faculty.

Officials set up a triage area with several ambulances behind a nearby fire department. NBC Connecticut’s Liz Dahlem is at the scene and said she does not see anyone being treated. A spokesperson for Danbury Hospital said it received three patients from the scene, but would not give details on their condition.

UPDATED 11:56 a.m. EST:   Two handguns recovered from Sandy Hook Elementary School. One teacher wounded.

UPDATED 1:40 p.m. EST:  27 killed, including 18 children. The gunman had ties to the school and was in his 20s. He was killed.
