Lt. Mike Chiapperini Identified as One of Two Firefighters Killed by Gunman in Webster NY

BREAKING NEWS:  One of the two firefighters shot in Webster NY has been identified as Lt. Mike Chiapperini of the Webster PD. He is also a volunteer for West Webster PD. The suspect was found dead at the scene.  Two other firefighters were also shot, but are in guarded condition at a local hospital.

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said the fire was apparently a “trap” set for first responders.  Lt. Mike Chiapperini was reportedly off-duty and was responding as a volunteer firefighter.

Thirty-three residents in the area were evacuated from their homes. NBC10News reports that four homes were destroyed and four other homes damaged.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Lt. Mike Chiapperini, who lost his life in the line of duty. This was another senseless murder.

UPDATED:  WEBSTER SHOOTING:  The names of the two firefighters killed by gunman in Webster NY are Tomasz Kaczowka and Lt. Mike ChiaperriniTheodore Scardino and Joseph Hofsetter were injured. The name of the gunman has not been released.
