BREAKING NEWS: MEXICAN OFFICIAL SAYS WRECKAGE OF PLANE BELIEVED TO BE CARRYING JENNI RIVERA FOUND, NO SURVIVORS.
BREAKING: A small plane carrying Mexican-American singer and reality show star Jenni Rivera has gone missing after taking off from Monterrey. The plane was bound for Toluca, located outside Mexico City.
The Daily Mail reports seven people including her publicist, lawyer, makeup artist and the flight crew were believed to be aboard the U.S.-registered Learjet 25, the ministry of transportation and communication said in a statement. Updated 9:05 p.m. ET NBC: Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash Saturday night, her father and brother confirmed on Telemundo.
Updated 7:32 a.m. ET Daily Mail: Seven people including the star’s publicist, Arturo Rivera, lawyer, makeup artist, Jacob Yebale, and the flight crew were believed to be aboard, the ministry of transportation and communication said in a statement. Jenni Rivera’s driver’s license was also found at the crash scene, which spread 300 feet from point of impact.
Updated 9:55 a.m. ET: According to media reports, the Learjet carrying Jenni Rivera had malfunctioned in 2005, when a fuel system malfunction caused one of the plane’s wings to weigh more than another while it was attempting to take off from an Amarillo airstrip. No one was injured in that incident. It was also discovered that one of the pilots had very little flying experience, based on based on the temporary airman’s certificate found at the crash site.
Updated 7:56 p.m. ET (12/11/12) ABC News: “The small plane carrying Mexican-American music superstar Jenni Rivera plunged in a nose-dive from more than 28,000 feet and hit the ground at more than 600 mph, Mexico’s top transportation official said.”
