While promoting his controversial Oscar-nominated antebellum flick “Django Unchained” in London, director Quentin Tarantino became unhinged when pressed by London’s Channel 4 Evening News host Krishnan Guru-Murthy about the link between movie violence and real violence. Tarantino told Guru-Murthy:

“Don’t ask me a question like that – I’m not biting.” When asked why, he says, “Because I refuse your question. I’m not your slave and you’re not my master. You can’t make me dance to your tune. I’m not a monkey.” Saying he was doing the interview as “a commercial for the movie,” Tarantino elaborates, “I don’t want to talk about the implications of violence… The reason I don’t want to talk about it: cause I’ve said everything I have to say about it. If anyone cares what I have to say about it, they can Google me and they can look for 20 years what I have to say.” Source:  Deadline Hollywood

Funny he should say “I’m not your slave and you’re not my master.” Isn’t that what “Django Unchained” is all about? One more thing, was Quentin Tarantino equating monkeys with slaves? If so, why hasn’t he been called out on that? I guess the whole slave experience makes a great movie theme, which translates into big bucks for him, doesn’t it?

Separately, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan claims the movie is preparation for the coming race war. Of course, Fox News Nation ran wild with this. Some of the comments are disgusting and just plain racist. Of course, The Drudge Report is also running with this. No surprise there.

Rep. Phil Gingrey: Todd Akin ‘Partly Right’ Woman’s Body Can Prevent Pregnancy After Legitimate Rape

PHIL GINGREY 199x300 Rep. Phil Gingrey: Todd Akin Partly Right Womans Body Can Prevent Pregnancy After Legitimate Rape

Rep. Phil Gingrey: Todd Akin ‘Partly Right’ Woman’s Body Can Stop Pregnancy After Rape (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) says Todd Akin “partly right” on a woman’s body shutting down to prevent pregnancy after rape.

“And in Missouri, Todd Akin … was asked by a local news source about rape and he said, ‘Look, in a legitimate rape situation’ — and what he meant by legitimate rape was just look, someone can say I was raped: a scared-to-death 15-year-old that becomes impregnated by her boyfriend and then has to tell her parents, that’s pretty tough and might on some occasion say, ‘Hey, I was raped.’ That’s what he meant when he said legitimate rape versus non-legitimate rape. I don’t find anything so horrible about that. But then he went on and said that in a situation of rape, of a legitimate rape, a woman’s body has a way of shutting down so the pregnancy would not occur. He’s partly right on that.”

Gingrey pointed out that he had been an OB-GYN since 1975.

“And I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he? But the fact that a woman may have already ovulated 12 hours before she is raped, you’re not going to prevent a pregnancy there by a woman’s body shutting anything down because the horse has already left the barn, so to speak. And yet the media took that and tore it apart.” Source:  AJC

Kate Middleton’s First Official Portrait Panned as “A Rotten Portrait”

Kate Middleton’s much anticipated first portrait is finally here and it’s blah. The portrait, painted by artist Paul Emsley, was unveiled in London’s National Portrait Gallery on Friday. It doesn’t do her any justice. It’s just plain ugly.

The Daily Mail’s art critic called it “a rotten portrait” and others are pointing out inaccurate and unflattering wrinkles and lines that make Kate look older than she is.

TrackingPoint Releases New ‘Smart-Gun’ Capable of Turning Anyone in Master Marksman

Just when the gun control debate intensifies, a highly sophisticated weapon, the Tracking Point rifle,  hits the market January 14, 2013, with a price tag of $17,000. This new ‘smart-gun’ is equipped with a computerized scope, which will enable anyone to become a master marksman.

Boasting three on-board processors and a precision guided firing system, the TrackingPoint rifle evaluates environmental factors such as wind speed and calculates the positions of moving targets with a claimed accuracy of almost a mile for novices.

Compensating for human error, looking through the futuristic laser rangefinder sight resembles the view a pilot has in a jet fighter cockpit and turns conventional bolt action rifles into deadly snipers – albeit at a cost of $17,000.

On their website TrackingPoint say they build ‘Precision Guided Firearms, or ‘PGFs, ‘which are a series of three heavily customized hunting rifles, ranging from a .300 Winchester Magnum with a 22-inch barrel up to a .338 Lapua Magnum with 27-inch barrel, all fitted with advanced computerized scopes. Do civilians really need a wi-fi enabled rifle? In light of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre that left 20 children and six adults dead, is this the best we can come up with? More sophisticated rifles?

ATLANTA — “Compassionate yet compulsive.” “A work horse, not a show horse.” “A woman who did not just come and occupy space…”

Described for her many attributes, both charming and impressive –though she found comfort in being a life partner and confidant behind the scenes, Lillian Lewis, 73, an outspoken civil rights activist and the wife of U.S. Rep. John Lewis, was laid to rest on Monday, Jan. 7.

Hundreds gathered in Atlanta for the homegoing services of Mrs. Lewis, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she and husband John Lewis married 44-years earlier to the exact date of her passing on New Year’s Eve, 2012.

Remembered for her discipline, voracious appetite for knowledge, dependability, and common-sense in a society commonly lacking sense, Lillian was commended for being a key motivator in encouraging the congressman’s entry into politics. With Lillian by his side, John Lewis became the second African-American [after Andrew Young] to represent the state of Georgia in Congress following Reconstruction, and successfully won 13 bids for reelection.

While many including the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., and Trumpet Awards founder and best friend to Lillian, Xernona Clayton, spoke idyllically of rough patches over the course of their friendship; Lillian’s “rare innate ability to make everyone feel special,” was a domineering theme.

Distinctive attributes including her affinity for sweets, and bright colors; and her devotion to the Atlanta University Center, Peace Corps and towards Africa were also highlighted.

National and local legislators, the full body of the Atlanta city council, along with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed; and fellow activist including the sister of Martin Luther King Jr., Christine King-Farris, and former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, gathered to pay final respects to Lillian.

“I doubt any member of Congress had a better-informed spouse,” said Farris.

Rep. Lewis has largely been regarded as one of the “Big Six” foot soldiers of the civil rights movement, as a founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), which subjected him to violent confrontations and atrocious beatings; and for his work with King. In 2011, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama, the highest civilian honor.

A friend and confidant to her husband; and fiercely trusted, Lillian and John Lewis were introduced by the matchmaking Clayton during a New Year’s Eve dinner party—the shared date of Lillian’s passing.

Clayton initiated the affectionate courtship with the icebreaker: “John, you got a girl?

Xernona and Lillian themselves were first introduced by King. Lillian and John later went on to wed during the year of King’s assassination in 1968.

Lillian was stricken in later years by illness, and cared for in a nursing home. But friends said she was a God-fearing woman, and many observed the occasion as a tribute, rather than a final goodbye.

“Lillian was a peace-loving, freedom-fighting woman,” said the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

“Good night and see you in the morning,” remarked Ebenezer Senior Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Joseph L. Roberts.
