Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the people who perished in the four-day Algerian gas field stand-off, including American, Fred Buttaccio, a U.S. BP employee from Corpus Christi, who was killed on Thursday. The hostage death toll now stands at 23.
The Algerian government said that 32 militants were killed in the hostage recovery mission, with 11 executed during the ‘final assault’ on the Al Qaeda-linked gunmen. The Interior Ministry said a total of 685 Algerian and 107 foreign workers were freed over the course of the standoff, which began on Wednesday.
