WEEKEND GUN VIOLENCE:  Two women were shot at a crowded soccer field at the Teton Trails Park in Las Vegas late Saturday morning. Police consider the shooting — one woman hit in the leg and the other across the chest — a random act.

“There’s nothing that seems to suggest that the women were actually targeted because neither was standing anywhere near the other,” said officer Marcus Martin, a public information officer for the Metropolitan Police Department. “It was just some moron with a gun.” The names of the women, ages 39 and 48, were not immediately released. The incident was first reported as a pellet gun being fired at 11:15 a.m. But later police discovered that several .22-caliber rounds were fired from a handgun or rifle. Source

Separately, one person is dead, one wounded in a shooting that occurred outside a BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit) in the bus zone in San Leandro, Calif., about 12:21 p.m. One suspect is in police custody, while police are looking for three more suspects. One person was wounded Saturday during a parade honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy in Jackson, Miss., Saturday afternoon. The victim is listed in stable condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest. An unidentified man was questioned about the shooting, but was later released.

Marshall Fields-Hall, 21, was fatally shot Friday outside the Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen on Chicago’s West Side Friday night.  Jovantay Alexander, 19, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head on Chicago’s South Side between two brick buildings in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The two murders mark the 28th and 29th persons killed in Chicago in 2013. At least 11 people were shot Friday afternoon to Saturday morning across the city, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Two people were found shot, one dead and the other in serious condition in an apartment in the 7900 block of Serenity Drive in Fort Wayne, Ind., Saturday evening, WANE reports. Police found a deceased man inside a vehicle and another male in the apartment wounded. No suspects in police custody.
