Newspaper Carrier Emma Hernandez in ICU After Being Shot by Police During Christopher Dorner Manhunt

Newspapeer carrier Emma Hernandez, 71, is intensive car after she and her daughter, Margie Carranza, 47, came under police fire while they delivered newspapers in Torrance early Thursday. Emma Hernandez was shot twice in the back by Los Angeles police detectives, who mistook their blue SUV for Christopher Dorner’s vehicle.

I know triple murder suspect and former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner has everyone in law enforcement running crazy, but the notion that officers would just riddle a vehicle with 46+ bullets without even ascertaining if the suspect was in tow is just unconscionable.

The officers riddled the women’s blue pickup with bullets in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue. Carranza was also hit, according to attorney Glen T. Jonas, and received stitches to a finger.

“The problem with the situation is it looked like the police had the goal of administering street justice and in so doing, didn’t take the time to notice that these two older, small Latina women don’t look like a large black man,” Jonas said.

Jonas said the women’s vehicle was also “the wrong color and the wrong model” compared to Dorner’s.

“We trust that the LAPD will step up and do the right thing and acknowledge that what they did was unacceptable and we’ll deal with it,” Jonas said. Source

Christopher Jordan Dorner is black and is six feet tall and weighs 270 pounds. How can you possibly confuse him with two Latina women? This speaks to the street justice mentality of the LAPD and that there is a serious problem in the department. Of course, they are painting Christopher Dorner as a mad-man, but is he really? I pray Emma Hernandez will survive and won’t be paralyzed. The police chief issued an apology to the two women, but quite frankly, that’s not good enough. In a nutshell, it is a travesty.
