The mother and aunt of alleged baby-killer De’Marquise Elkins were arrested on charges they lied to the authorities. Karimah Elkins, 36, and Katrina Elkins, 33, were booked into the Glynn County jail on Tuesday on charges of making false statements to police.
Karimah Elkins is the mother of De’Marquise Elkins, who is the suspected trigger-man in the murder of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in the Brunswick GA shooting. The AJC reports, Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering told reporters Tuesday that the women gave investigators new information that led them to a pond where they found a handgun. That handgun is currently being tested to determine if it was used in the slaying.
Katrina Elkins is the suspect’s aunt, who reportedly told The Associated Press and other media on Saturday that her nephew couldn’t have killed the child because he was at her house having breakfast.
Antonio Santiago’s mother, Sherry West, identified De’Marquise Elkins in a police photo lineup as her son’s killer. Dominique Lang, 15, was also charged in Antonio Santiago’s murder.
Um, Karimah Elkins was in court yesterday telling her son she loved him. That’s all the while lying to authorities. Some role model. As they say, the fruit never falls far from the tree, does it?
