The right wing freak-out over First Lady Michelle Obama appearing at the Oscars to present the Best Picture award to “Argo” didn’t surprise her. It was laughable at best, since Laura Bush, also appeared on an Oscar telecast in 2002 on videotape. Mrs. Obama said it was “absolutely not surprising” that her satellite appearance provoked a national conversation, with some right wingers accusing her of selfishly crashing the event. She attributed the chatter to a culture shift that has spawned legions of bloggers, tweeters and others who talk about anything and everything all the time.

“Shoot, my bangs set off a national conversation. My shoes can set off a national conversation. That’s just sort of where we are. We’ve got a lot of talking going on,” the first lady said only somewhat jokingly Thursday before an appearance in Chicago, her hometown. “It’s like everybody’s kitchen-table conversation is now accessible to everybody else so there’s a national conversation about anything.” Source

This is much ado about nothing, but as usual, the right wing blogosphere went nuts just because it involved Michelle Obama and she should know her place, like a good negro. It was okay for Laura Bush to do it, but no, Michelle Obama is ever the First Lady with selfish motivations whenever she shows her face in public and on television. As far as the right wing is concerned she should neither be seen or heard.

Janet, it’s really frustrating to have a friend, co-worker, a family member, a person in the media or someone who gets a few minutes of fame to publicly trash the president and first lady.

A lot of Blacks walk on egg shells when they talk about President Barack Obama.

We kind of figure that the reactionary bigot will go scream to the boss, the Fox News producer, and talk radio host about how it’s those evil Obamas ruining America.

They’ve elevated to a level where it’s out in the open. All they need now is the racial slurs and word vomit.

Brian — I hear you. Some in the black community also get very upset when he is criticized. He isn’t immune from that, but it should be for the right reason. No matter what he and his wife do, some people on the right always takes offense to it. This Oscar dust-up was just ridiculous, considering Laura Bush appeared in a videotaped segment at the 2002 Oscars. Seems like a whole lot of sour grapes or just plain hating.
