POLICE BRUTALITY: Mido Macia, the taxi driver who was killed after being dragged behind a police van in Daveyton, South Africa, was buried in his native Mozambique. He was laid to rest in Matola, near capital city Maputo. Video footage of Mido Macia being dragged behind the van sparked widespread outrage last month. On Friday, nine South African police officers were charged with his murder.
The hearing for the nine policemen accused of murder had been postponed from Monday to allow time for state witnesses to confirm the identities of the suspect, BBC News reports. The court was told that Mido Macia suffered extensive injuries, ending in hypoxia, which is a lack of oxygen supply to the body, which caused his death.
