The right wing freak-out continues as the dust settles after Washington Wizards center Jason Collins comes out as a gay man. Well, I knew it was a matter of time before we heard from right wing evangelical Bryan Fischer. Watch out, Pat Robertson could be next. Bryan Fischer said that NBA players and their wives would loudly resist being on a team with Collins out of fear that he will be “eyeballing” them in the shower. SMH. What a dumbass.
Personally, I could care less what Jason Collins’ sexual orientation is. I believe he should be free to live as a gay man and not hide in a closet. Still, I applaud him for taking a step forward and I hope he will help other young gays and lesbians live freely as themselves.
Bryan Fischer’s hypocrisy:
It’s equally shameful that ESPN’s Outside The Lines Chris Broussard is criticizing Jason Collins, saying that he wouldn’t “characterize [Collins] as a Christian.” He was pretty brazen to make such a comment in front of openly gay colleague LZ Granderson:
BROUSSARD: Personally, I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly, like premarital sex between heterosexuals. If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that, you know, that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, whatever it maybe, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the bible would characterize them as a Christian.
Here’s the video of Chris Broussard questioning Jason Collins’ faith:
