NAVY YARD SHOOTING RAMPAGE: Seven of the 12 victims in Aaron Alexis shooting rampage at the Washington D.C. Navy Yard have been identified. Those killed in the Navy Yard shooting range in age from 46 to 73. The following names were released Monday night:
- Michael Arnold, 59
- Sylvia Frasier, 53
- Kathy Gaarde, 62
- John Roger Johnson, 73
- Frank Kohler, 50
- Kenneth Bernard Proctor, 46
- Vishnu Pandit, 61
Officials said they will release the other five names once their families have been notified. Although not officially released, Arthur Daniels, is also among the victims. Jacqueline Alston told CNN that she hasn’t heard from her husband, Ernest, who is a custodial employee at the Navy Yard. We are praying that he will be found safe. Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray said eight people were injured.
NBC News reports that shooter Aaron Alexis, a former Navy reservist, may have lost his job recently. According to NBC News sources, Alexis “had been treated multiple times for psychological issues, including sleep deprivation, anger and paranoia.” He was reportedly most recent treated at a VA Hospital in New England.
There are about 3,000 people working at the Naval Sea Systems Command and it could take a full day before everyone is notified, the Navy Secretary said on Monday.
[UPDATED 09/17/13 12:06 pm EST]: The Metropolitan police released the names of the five remaining victims: Arthur Daniels, 51; Mary Francis Knight, 51; Gerald L. Read, 58; Martin Bodrog, 54 and Richard Michael Ridgell, 52.
