Pickens County, SC, Sheriff Rick Clark, is defying President Obama’s order that U.S. flags by lowered at half-staff in honor of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, who died yesterday.

Why? Because former South African president Nelson Mandela is not an AMERICAN. The Ole South rides again….

Someone should tell this moron that President George W. Bush ordered flag lowered at half-staff for Pope John Paul II in 2005 and President Lyndon Johnson ordered the same for Winston Churchill when he died in 1965.

Rick Clark made the pledge to keep flying the flag at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office at full height in a Facebook post:

“I usually don’t post political items, but today is different. I received this notification today, ‘As a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela, the President orders that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset, December 9, 2013,’” Clark wrote. “Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!! The flag should be lowered at our Embassy in S. Africa, but not here.”

Clark said the flags at the Sheriff’s Office were at half staff Friday to mourn a deceased deputy. Clark said the flag would remain at half mast Saturday to mark Pearl Harbor Day. After that, he said, he “ordered that the flag here at my office back up” (sic).

My guess is that Rick Clark is a Republican who will stop at nothing to defy the president. One problem, he’s coming off as an ignoramus, who is defying his boss’ orders.

Sherriff Clark you have minimally 2 options, you can stick with what you ‘think’ you know and show the are you live in, the country and the world your little mind or you can admit you may have misinterpreted the information and fly the flag at half staff. Of course to be unable to admit a misunderstanding takes a bigger person and something as a country we are beginning to be aware of is sadly lacking in ‘police departments’ across this country. Or you can show your own department, county, state and country you are willing to learn as they’d say the ball is in your court, sit and spin in the dirt or rise above it. This is one of many sites that supports what the President ordered. The flag is flown at half staff for many different people, not just those in our awesome military that give their lives for you.
http://www.usflag.org/nff.half.staff.html = FLYING THE FLAG AT HALF-STAFF: The pertinent section of the Flag Code says, “by order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a State, territory, or possesion, as a mark of respect to their memory. In the event of the death of other officials or foreign dignitaries, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff according to Presidential orders, or in accordance with recognized customs or practices not inconsistent with law.

Darma2U — He’s trying to flex his muscles but the joke’s on him. President G. W. Bush did it for Pope John Paul II and Lyndon Johnson for Winston Churchill.
