How many people have to die before Chicago makes a concerted effort to stem the gun violence wreaking havoc on its residents? Betty Howard, a teacher at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep School on Chicago’s South Side was gunned down Thursday evening. She is another innocent victim of gun violence.
Brooks, who was a special education teacher, was also the First Lady of New Light Holiness Church. Her husband Rev. Major Howard was the pastor. She also worked as a case manager at the church and organized a tutoring program, the Sun Times reports.
Howard, a mother of two sons, was shot in the head in the 700 block of East 79th Street at about 5:25 p.m. Thursday evening. At the time of her murder, Betty Howard was at her part-time job at Kale Realty. A bullet grazed one of the four agents in the office.
