UPDATE 08/10/14: St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar says struggle ensued between Mike Brown and officer inside patrol car before shooting.
An angry crowd formed after 18-year-old Michael Brown (Mike Brown) was fatally shot by a Ferguson, Mo., police officer this afternoon. Witnesses said Brown, who was unarmed, was shot multiple times (some say 10 times) by the officer near an apartment in the 2900 block of Canfield Drive. Witnesses said Brown was walking in the middle of the street with a friend.
Michael Brown, a 2014 graduate of Normandy High School, was set to begin classes at Vatterott College on Monday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Police have not released any details about what led to Michael Brown’s murder. At one point this afternoon, some people allegedly chanted “kill the police,” according to the police (yep, the police). People were heard on video chanting “Killer cops have got to go.” KMOV reports:
[T]here are at least 100 police cars and numerous officers armed with M-16′s in the area. Stark also says hundreds of people have gathered at the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Canfield Drive to protest the incident. A large police force from 15 different departments responded, including riot-control officers.
More on the shooting from KMOV:
Dorian Johnson tells News 4 he was walking with Brown when the officer confronted them and drew his weapon.
“He (the officer) shot again and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air,” said Dorian Johnson, a friend Brown’s. “He started to get down and the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots.”

The outrage over Michael Brown’s murder was swift:
The St. Louis County Crimes Against Person Unit is taking over the investigation into Michael Brown’s fatal shooting at the request of the Ferguson Police Department. The police officer involved in the shooting has not been
identified, but has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The local NAACP chapter issued this statement:
“We are hurt to hear that yet another teenaged boy has been slaughtered by law enforcement especially in light of the recent death of Eric Garner in New York who was killed for selling cigarettes. We plan to do everything within our power to ensure that the Ferguson Police Department as well as the St. Louis County Police Department releases all details pertinent to the shooting. We strongly encourage residents to stay away from the crime scene so that no additional citizens are injured. I have spoken directly with St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, and I am confident that both he and his department will ensure that the investigation is conducted properly and that all details are kept transparent.”
