Actress Meryl Streep eviscerated Donald Trump during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes Awards show saying “disrespect invites disrespect.” She did it without mentioning his name.
Streep went straight after Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda: “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts.”
She also said, “It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back.”
She was referring to an incident with Trump on the campaign trail that “kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.” She was referring to the incident in which Trump mocked disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski.
“[This] instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” she continued.
“Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”
Streep also called for protections for the press and for the press to uphold the truth always. She also talked about diversity and Trump’s immigration stance.

Of course, some right wing lunatics didn’t like the speech and vomited all over Twitter. That includes Sen. John McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain. Yep, the same John McCain who Donald Trump mocked for being a POW.
