Republicans Back Down from Gutting House Ethics Office After Widespread Outrage

House Republicans are backing down from gutting the Office of Ethics after widespread condemnation, including two tweets from Donald Trump questioning the timing. It is quite clear that the Republicans are out to vote themselves right out of office with secrecy and overreach.

The Republicans “pulled language to weaken the independent Office of Congressional Ethics and subject it to internal House rule,” the Washington Post reports. I wouldn’t attribute it to Donald Trump’s tweet but to the public condemnation of a shady act.

Now, Donald Trump is trying to deflect from the House Republicans faceplant on the ethics office debacle. He’s now tweeting about Gitmo.
