Trump White House Mum as Hundreds Arrested in Anti-Putin Protests in Russia

The Trump White House is predictably silent as hundreds were arrested during anti-Putin protests Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities in Russia. The State Department finally issued a statement in a tweet at 8:11 p.m.

Police in riot gear cracked down on the largely peaceful protests, arresting opposition leader Alexei Navalny and hundreds of protesters. The protest in Moscow was one of the biggest the country has seen in recent years.

Navalny organized the protests to increase pressure on Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who he accused of accepting bribes that he used to purchase yachts and mansions. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow covered Navalny in a segment on her show on March 3, 2017, where she showed images of Medvedev’s mansions and yachts.

The US embassy in Moscow did not issue any statements as of 4:48 p.m. EST on Sunday. Of course, that’s not surprising, since Donald Trump can’t bring himself to criticize Vladimir Putin for anything.

Talk about unintended consequences….Vladimir Putin attacked democracy so much it shined a light right back on his dictatorship.

Here are some of the images from the anti-Putin protests:
