Trump’s America: A black pedestrian, identified as Nandi Cain Jr., was slammed to the ground and beaten by a police officer for allegedly jaywalking on a Sacramento street.
The video, which was released on Monday, shows the officer confronting Cain as he crossed an intersection. The situation quickly escalated.
The officer violently threw Cain to the ground after some words were exchanged and started punching him in the head.
Bystander Naomi Montaie recorded the video and posted it on Facebook. She can be heard in the background screaming, “Oh my God. Why did you take him down like that?”
NBC News reports, the Sacramento Police Department issued a statement saying that the officer originally “attempted to detain a pedestrian for allegedly unlawfully crossing the street.”
According to the statement, Cain “questioned the officer’s validity to stop him at which time a violent encounter occurred between the officer and the pedestrian,” NBC News reports.
