Gen. McMaster Tells South Korea U.S. Will Pay for Thaad Missile-Defense System Hours After Trump Said Opposite

National security adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster tells South Korea that the U.S. will pay for the Thaad missile-defense system 48 hours after Donald Trump said the opposite on Thursday during an interview with Reuters.

McMaster told his South Korean counterpart Kim Kwan-jin, during a phone call on Sunday, that the U.S. would finance the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense, or Thaad, as had been agreed by the two countries last year.

On Thursday, Trump said, South Korea should pay for the roughly $1 billion Thaad system, the Wall Street Journal reports. He also attacked them on trade.

“Gen. McMaster also praised the U.S. alliance with South Korea as “the most solid alliance” and as Washington’s priority in the region, saying that “the U.S. will be with the Republic of Korea 100%,” using the formal name for South Korea,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

Um, thankfully, Gen. McMaster is the adult in the room. This so-called president continues to embarrass the U.S. on the world stage.
