Jordan Edwards, an unarmed 15 year old honor student, was fatally shot by a police officer Saturday night while leaving a house party in Dallas.

Police have retracted earlier statements that a vehicle was reversing towards officers in an “aggressive manner” when one of the officers opened fire, hitting Edwards, who was a passenger in the car.

At a press conference on Monday, Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber said he had initially “misspoke.” He said the vehicle had begun driving away when the officer opened fire.

Haber said, “I unintentionally (was) incorrect when I said the vehicle was backing down the road … in fact I can tell you that I do have questions in relation to my observation (of) the video,” Haber said. “After reviewing the video, I don’t believe that (the shooting) met our core values,” the Washington Post reports.

Haber said the evidence will be presented to a grand jury.
