James T. Hodgkinson, 66, has been identified as the gunman who shot GOP Rep. Steve Scalise and four others during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Va., on Wednesday morning. Donald Trump announced that Hodgkinson has died from his injuries, though law enforcement has not stated.

James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., owns a home inspection business. “His home inspection license expired in November 2016 and was not renewed, state records show,” the Washington  Post reports.

“Hodgkinson was charged in April 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle, according to online records in St. Clair County, Illinois. The charges were dismissed, records show.”

He also punched a woman in the face and fired a shotgun at her boyfriend. Mass shooters have a history of violence against women. This man should not have been able to purchase a gun.

According to his Facebook page, James T. Hodgkinson is a Bernie Bro. Bernie Sanders issued a statement following the shooting: “Our prayers go out for a full recovery of Rep. Scalise, the congressional aides and police officers who were injured. We’ve got to stop the violence.”

The Republicans will try to paint the resistance as violent, like they did to Black Lives Matter. That’s furthest from the truth.

Here’s what Hodgkinson wrote about Donald Trump two days ago:

He posted this cartoon (kinda hilarious) about Trump:
