A newly released dashcam video shows Philando Castile was executed by then-officer Jeronimo Yanez during a traffic stop that turned deadly in the Twin Cities suburb of Falcon Heights.
Yanez fired a volley of bullets within seconds after Castile told him “I do have a firearm on me.” The officer is heard saying, “okay,” as he shifted his right hand onto the holster of his gun.
Yanez told Castile not to reach for the gun or pull it out. Castile responded, “I’m not pulling it out.”
The officer again shouted: “Don’t pull it out!” He then unholstered his gun and pushed it into the car, shouting, “Don’t pull it out!” Again, Castile responded, “I’m not.”
Seven seconds after being told about the gun, Jeronimo Yanez fired into the car, hitting Castile.
Diamond Reynolds, Castile’s girlfriend, and her daughter were in the car. She recorded the encounter and broadcast it on Facebook Live for the world to see last July.
The dashcam video was played during the trial, but Yanez was still acquitted by the all-white jury. This cop should never have walked free.
