The US Embassy in London directly contradicted Donald Trump by praising Mayor Sadiq Khan for his “strong leadership” following the terrorist attacks that left seven dead and 48 injured.

Trump attacked Mayor Khan, tweeting: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is “no reason to be alarmed!” The mayor clearly stated that Londoners should not be alarmed at the increased police presence. Trump shamefully took his comment out of context to push his xenophobic agenda.

The US embassy tweeted a statement from acting Ambassador Lewis Lukens:  “It is with a heavy heart I offer my condolences and support to the people of the United Kingdom. America grieves with you. The response from emergency services, law enforcement & officials in Ldn — as well as ordinary Londoners — has been extraordinary. I commend the strong leadership of the @MayorofLondon as he leads the city forward after this heinous attack.”

I guess acting Ambassador Lukens won’t have a job for too much longer, since the Trump administration is averse to truth and fact. Mayor Sadiq Khan’s office issued a statement throwing epic shade at Trump’s racist dog whistle: “The Mayor is busy working with the police, emergency services, and the government to coordinate the response to this horrific and cowardly terrorist attack and provide leadership and reassurance to Londoners and visitors to our city. He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks using Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police — including armed officers — on the streets.”
